• Picked this up yesterday:

I really don't want to throw too much money at this but the 135mm rear spacing will prob limit my wheel choice. Right now I'm thinking either cheap mtb free hub with a cog and spacers or splash out on a surly mountain hub & WI freewheel. Probably laced to an open sport.

Next is cranks, what do people normally use for sscx?

  • It is a NOT steel frame, so you can easily use a 130mm rear free hub. Just get a good Shimano cam qr and squeeze the frame a bit.
As for cranks any will do. 110bcd is normal go to bcd in cx, but for ss 130bcd is just as easy to find chainrings for. I used to run cheap 130 bcd SRAM chainrings from 39-42t and then use Surly ss kit on the rear.

    EDIT for truth

  • Never done SSCX but Hope Trials hubs are 135 spaced. Bit more porky than a freewheel setup but gives you the option to switch cogs out and you could run it 1x5 in the future with one of those DMR hanger if you decide against single speed.
