so 110kg overall per rim?
No, per bike.

Rider plus bike plus luggage weight.
ftfy, just for absolute clarity. System weight is the whole gravitation force which has to be reacted at the tyre contact patches.

Ok, thanks.

Can we go back to these cosine wheels mentioned previously?
Are we saying that we shouldn't buy them? Will they be utter crap? -

Looking for a lightweight set of 38mm(ish) carbon clinchers .. Already have a far sports set and while doing a sterling job I can't stretch to the now £450 or so price :(
I noticed these .. Looks same as far sports bar different spokes ?
Not sure if u-shape rims though ?

--Not sure if u-shape rims though ?
Rim width : 20.5mm
Not likely
-
• #6584
U shape isn't going to make any different at that depth anyway
-
• #6585
My far sports are 20.5 and u-shape(38mm)
Just want u-shape for aesthetics :)

Couple of bargains on PX wheel wise at the mo. Use the code and it's 50% off the stated price. Free postage at these prices too.
Khamisns are just £75 a pair while Shimano RS330 are £110. Seems pretty cheap if you're after a decent set of budget wheels. I'm half in the market, but should really be spending my money on holiday plans...

Any views on Zuus wheels?

So in the process of getting some new wheelset for my brother's Trek Madone, was thinking going for deep and wide wheels and the options are:
the superstar components (with discount code) for £190
http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc31-ultrawide-wheelset.htm
or 3t 40 pro wheelset at £200

Thoughts?

Check out this review of the 3t from CRC:
'i have had those wheels for 2 years and the spokes kept breaking after 1 year of trainning. i have NEVER come across such a thing before in my 25 years of cycling. i am no heavy guy, 78kg for 1.89cm in height is no heavy. i had no support/warranty from 3T whatsoever. i had to change all the spokes and nipples just to sell them. i do about 500km a week so i dont want to imagine what would have happened with the hubs. they look stunning at first and roll great, but you can get campy scirocco 35 or fulcrum racing quatro for 100euros cheaper , and much better wheels. my advice - stay away guys'
He's surprised he's breaking spokes after doing 25k km in a year!!

get 23mm wide?
-
• #6591
@HoKe In my experience those 3T wheels are great. Spin really well and do hold speed, if that's such a thing. I have not broken spokes, nor have they gone out of true. But they do use very thin Pillar spokes, which do have a habit of snapping in a poor build. Admittedly they have lived in a box in my parents garage in Sydney for the past year so cant comment on real durability. I put about 5000 k's on them before leaving them there.
Which leads me to superstar. I have a set of Pave 28's for everyday and they're fine but I did snap multiple spokes on the rear. They use they same thin pillar spoke. I also have to tweak them to keep them true quite often. And they're a bit flexy.
I'm a very average rider though, 75kg and no massive sprint power so... does that help?

Yes that's plan b .. Just that the 23's come in bit heavier bit guess the larger contact patch is worth the extra grams :)
I shouldn't give a toss about gram shaving but I can't help it :(

40mm deep but their the old fashion 21mm wide rims is a little off putting.
Which rims are these? The 3T accelero's are 23 wide. As to their weight, I never noticed. Certainly didn't feel slow. I found them very good at speed and excellent handling too.
I think the deal with those superstar wheels is if you get a set that's been built well then it's fine. But their quality is variable. Keep the box and use their free truing service. Simples.

I'd be tempted to spend a little more and get something a bit lighter

Just get DT R23/Fulcrum Racing 7 LG.

Sound like he need disc brakes.

Yawn

• #6599
Arc22 and arc31s on Superstar with better hubs and CX Ray spokes for £194 with 25% code.
Don't think I can resist! The spokes alone are worth half the build cost! -

Disc wheelset for both cross and winter roadieing? Obviously disc 303s, but I ain't made of money.
Not fussed by material, but my list of priorities are: width, aeros/mud clearance/depth, weight
Must be black, cheaper the better. I weigh nothing so can have low spoke counts, but durability is super positive because I intend to abuse them and I suck at servicing things.
Ok, so 110kg overall per rim? They list their front/rear wheels separately with a weight limit, not as a wheelset :/
