  • Nice one!

  • Congrats

Friend has bit of a high mileage one but the bike is sweet.

  • yay! nice one

  • Congrats!

    It's a great feeling...

  • Well done.

  • Nicely done!

  • Congrats dude, that's awesome

  • What's the 125cc? a friend is in the market

  • Derbi Mulhacen 125 (not the cafĂ©). There's some cosmetic damage to one of the fairing that I'm debating whether to tidy up. For learning and the city I've really enjoyed it. Plus it doesn't looks like a small bike.

Tbh I need to have a think about next steps, so if I do sell it probably wouldn't be for a month.

    I'll let you know though.

  • Massive congrats man. Any passing tips? just started my DAS and it's flipping tiring.

  • Congratulations @hugo7

    How does it feel?

  • Don't lean

  • Do you even fixie bro?

  • It hasn't really sunk in. I'm just really glad I passed first time, its not a cheap excersise.

My dad has said he'll put me on his 1934 Matchless when the insurance comes round for renwal, which is exciting :)

  • There were quite a few on the last page.

It reminded me a bit of my driving test, in that you just need to concentrate and apply everything you've learnt.

One thing I did to counter act my commuter style was talk to myself. So when I was right up behind a car I'd be saying "1-2 bike lengths" and when pulling away at the front of the lights after just doing a right shoulder check I'd be saying "normally you would have checked both shoulders obviously, wouldn't you".

One other thing that might help is if you have a solid colour helmet putting some stickers on the back and sides.
Two different instructior pulled me up for not doing mirror checks. The first might have been right, but by the next day I know I was doing them to death. Because my helmet is black I don't think it was obvious, so I put a load of neon filing stickers on the back edges so when my head moved to the side it was really obvious.

  • Talking to yourself about your actions out loud is a good technique, can help you to stay relaxed and focused.

  • Ok so the 18v battery powered grinder is now my new favourite tool....those frigging things are scarily effective. They cut through hardened 12mm bolts like butter.

Bit more work on the budget GSXR stupid bike conversion today. Had to grind the heads off the security bolts on the ignition switch with a die grinder. Fortunately the remaining thread got so hot it killed the red loctite and they came out with mole grips.

Cut down the posts and then faced them on the mill before drilling and tapping the holes for M6 bolts to hold the new clock mounts. Measured and drilled the yoke for the protaper flat bar mounts. Had to shorten the captive mounting bolts for the yoke and cut another fucking half inch of M12 x 1.75 thread which was a complete cock. All looks square and works now though!

Dremeled the fuck out of the plastic shite that surrounds the clocks and made up two ally brackets to sandwich the mounts on the converted ignition switch pillars.

    Still to do:

Fit the longer throttle and clutch cables. Measure and cut new brake lines and fit. Mount ignition key in the right hand air intake though the frame and solder all the wires I cut because I coudn't be arsed to remove the airbox to get to the connector.

Install new fork seal - thanks Amazon for sending me the wrong bloody size.

Drill out the rivets and cut at least 4 inches out of the end can. It's Ti so should make for an amusing show on the bandsaw.

    Buy a Simpson Super Bandit.

    Wheelie. Lots.

  • Oh and I need to convert one of those hiking aluminum water bottles to mount as the coolant overflow to get rid of the cumbersome plastic one.

I reckon with the new lithium battery and all the fairing and bollocks removed, I've lost at least 10kg. Throw in the stupid renthals and we should have a very silly machine.

  • May Day run to Hastings today. Anyone going?

  • Totally missed that! I ended up there out of total coincidence last year because it's my girlfriend's bday, wondered what the flip so many bikes were doing out there. Meant to do it this year but have family mischief to do. Enjoy it if you're heading out that way.

  • @hugo7 @skinny Thanks guys, that's actually really great practical advice. Can't believe how effective talking to yourself is.

  • Who else makes bars apart from renthal?

Looking for something around 780 long. 60/80 height and rise and around 70/100 sweep. Renthal enduro med or jimmy button seem closest.

Also amazed no bike shops have bars in stock to look at feel? There are million of types

  • Now that would be fun...just remeber that it is nothing like a modern bike.

  • What you gonna do with it?
