  • I need a 130mm adjustable stem, with a 26mm bar clamp. I've found stems that are close... This is the right length, but it has 25.4mm clamp while This is 25.8mm...

Does anyone know of any 130mm/26mm adjustable stems, or if not, how much flexibility is there in the clamp diameter? Could a smaller bar clamp diameter be used safely with 26mm bars?

    Edit:
Steerer tube is standard 1 1/8.
I suppose another option would be to use my existing 31.8mm adjustable stem with a 26-31.8 shim?

  • This is 25.8mm

25.8 and 26.0 are effectively the same, the tolerance band on handlebars is pretty broad. Ritchey like to say 25.8, but AFAIK nobody has ever had any trouble mixing and matching their 25.8 with everybody else's 26.0.

  • Thanks @Scilly.Suffolk and @mdcc_tester I'm pretty convinced I'm going to go down the shim route. Shimming the bars up from 26-31.8mm would enable me to experiment with the adjustable stem on more than one bike which would be an advantage.

Fixed tt bike is now rideable, I just need some bigger gears and to get the front end lower and longer.
