  • DO IT

You got me thinking about them again now.

Going to look at some watches at Windsor Bishop this weekend - see if they have a Pelagos in stock. It might be time.

  • For me it was above $200 but under $2k. That's why I've gone either side of that!

Just getting a Seiko 5 delivered tmrw to make do. Was $32 after deductions lol

  • Am thinking of treating myself to a new watch. I'm looking for a nice, classic looking automatic, pilot style - sort of the next level up from my Seiko5. I had thought Hamilton but they're not really doing it for me. Suggestions?

    Possibly not quite on brief, but I'd have a look at;

    • Zenith
    • Longines
    • Tissot (the "Heritage" line is nice, fucking hate that phrase tho)
  • I'm not a big fan of Tissot, although in 20 years they might have gotten better.
My Tissot the second dial (where the numbers are) keeps separating from the main dial. I've not bothered to repair it for the forth time so it just sits in a box.

  • Good suggestions. Quite liking the smiths, the timekeepers and the steinhart. Not a big fan of the big swirly crown on the timekeepers though. I think I like a functional look.

  • My friend has a Tissot with the compass function now defunct...

  • Those electronic compass Tissot watches? A colleague bought one at a previous company - he sent back 6 to them within 12 months.

  • Have you ever noticed that weird shop window advert for Blancpain on Bahnhofstrasse in Zermatt? Can you actually buy them there?

  • The heratige visodate was the one I thought was nice. Obvs not a pilot, but a good looking affordable watch.

  • If you want a compass watch then surely it's a Casio.

I've actually used mine a fair bit. Admittedly normally for coming out of a tube station in Tokyo or similar and working out which way I should walk.

  • In general I'm a big fan of the Tissot "heritage" style watches, I'm not sure the image above does the watch justice, from the "on wrist" shots I've seen it looks much better in real life than in a 3d modelled image.

  • Not a big fan of their Soviet-esque branding, nice looking watch tho'...

  • Perlon Straps? Good idea or BAD? I fear I already made a suspect choice by ditching the SKX for a Citizen. Trying to improve with a better strap. Must be functional and good in seawater and hot climate, hence Perlon.

  • I like perlon. Would recommend Eulit brand, available for a tenner or so on ebay from Germany I think. Best quality of the ones I've tried.

  • Cheers, that's the ones I was looking at. Looking at the one piece Panama but also a 2 piece version. £16 bit looks nice in blue...

  • You know, I've no idea. I know exactly what advert you mean. Will have to check it out next year

  • Thanks, good memory!

  • Thanks - good to know a ballpark figure. At least it's affordable.

  • Cheers for the info. Glad to know they'll do a good job.

  • It arrived! Orient Ray 2 - Blue

  • They use a screwdriver to hold them as they do up the other side from the back. They're white gold and soft. If you were to just use the steel case as a spanner to hold them when doing them up, they'd round off pretty quickly.

  • ^ Ha. Steel ain't THAT soft. :o) Edit - (White Gold)

  • I think he means the bolts, being made of soft gold, would round off, but I politely call BS. Any metal soft enough to round off a fully engaged hex head would easily strip a slot, and why would you make bolts from such a material?

  • Well yes. U would be better to use the hex outer surface area than a slot for resistance with bimetals.

  • It is clearly a homage to the octagonal port holes on said Royal Oak. Slot screw heads being used widely by the 1800's... #FuckUglyDoe
