  • Going to the Castle on Friday daytime for a good session if anyone's about?

  • I'll be there later on, around 5:30.

  • I'm planning to be in and out before the rush. But if I end up being there later I'll drop you a line.

  • Could anyone please point me in the right direction for the closest/decent sport (and maybe trad) routes to London?

  • I climb The Arch a couple times in the week around 7:30am and on Sunday mornings, tend to go with a couple people and know a few people there but would be nice to meet some more! Anyone about? jt

  • Which week day do you go? building one or the biscuit? Might be about next week.

  • I'm thinking of getting early morning climbs at the Arch in before work. I'll post if I ever manage to put this into action.
I was at the Biscuit Factory yesterday morning.

  • How often do people buy new climbing shoes, or get them resoled?

I've been going twice a week for 10 months and I've worn a hole in the toe of one of mine. Just trying to decide whether to be upset about this or not. :)

  • That doesn't seem totally unreasonable. What shoes do you have?

  • I go three times a week and my shoes last around six months

  • Boreal jokers. Not top of the range, i just have no frame of reference for how durable these things are supposed to be.

I guess I should've had them resoled a few weeks ago to avoid this.

  • You may still be able to get them done.

  • Yeah, I'll give it a go with that Chida guy. Do you know what his turnaround time is?

  • I'm yet to go the resoling route.

  • I'm going to give this a try next time I'm down at the arch.

  • the toes on my Futura's are starting to go. Amy recommendations for resolving/patching? I've used feet first a few times with traditional shoes but these are more rounded...

  • Does anyone know where to buy M10 tee nuts? B&Q only had m8 and I don't want to have to pay ludacris shipping for such a small item

  • Flints overprice everything, but you don't have to buy 1000s. if you do want thousands, I can find out who supplies the arch if you like.

  • No thanks mate, the supplier listed looks fine, only need 20. I want to build a hangboard which I can use anywhere (not mount just throw a sling over it and a tree in the park). I have more than enough left over ~10mm ply what's the best/ safest way of doubling the thickness? I have four old biscuits and will design some wooden holds from left over pine and move them around the board. Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • ~10mm ply what's the best/ safest way of doubling the thickness?

    In order of safeness:

    1. buy some 18mm ply. The strongest kinds of ply available in e.g your local travis perkins are, in this order, Birch ply, marine ply, and WPB.

    2. If you're dead set on glueing two bits of 9mm together, spread wood glue thinly over the entire surface of one face, and clamp with an even pressure over night. You could use the bolts and tee nuts to apply the pressure if you don;t have a bunch of clamps. Biscuits wont make it any stronger I don't think.

  • I've got a hanging fingerboard, seems like a great idea except that the weight pulls you forward so the angles get much steeper (I.e. really difficult to hang on the small ones). You might be fine with that but it is much less useful than a properly hung one!

I used 18mm ply, got a piece cut at the wood yard in Peckham - only cost £5 or so

  • Okay I will pick up some 18mm if its that reasonable, @andyfallsoff what did you attatch yours to instead?

  • MK1 is here, haven't picked up tee nuts so just went for wooden holds but its ok as I have lots of 18mm ply left from a b&q offcut for a fresh board. The accessory cord I used was abit dynamic which isn't pleasant but it didnt tilt forward when weighted which is good. I may use a crag swag sling which won't at all be dynamic. Is there another option other than fixed mounting if that really isn't an option?

  • I used slings, biners and a loop of prussic cord for mine and it's solid. If it doesn't lean forward I'd say no issue, a bit of wobble isn't a disaster (helps build better upper body muscle, but I appreciate makes the hardest deadhangs tougher)
