I can't wear gaiters with these shoes (flat sole) but they're well high anyway and from proper leather. Good leather grease should keep most of the wet out. Still, in my experience at some point the water just creeps through.
Wool socks are a must anyway.
Ah, I see. Oh well. Looks like you've had some advice from someone with more experience of them! Hope it stays good for you and the socks do their job!
