  • Who's in that celebrity threesome injunction thing?

Desmond Browne QC (queen's counsel) for the applicant, Gavin Millar QC for Newsgroup and Lord Justice Neuberger presiding. Interesting that they are all men...

  • Excellent.

You just made my days being able to find an 650b wheelset with thru-axles and 11 speed spacing.

  • Where can I get an octopus in formaldehyde in London?

  • Not quite what you're after perhaps but there is murdermap - Google it

  • Dover Street Market?

I remember seeing exotic species (very dead) in there some time ago

  • Any chance Id get away with taking a bike with the wheels removed onto the overground during peak hours? I'm expecting the answer to be no

  • Yeah, I've done it. Carry the frame and put the wheels in a bag.

  • Make it look less like a bike, grab one of those insanely large laundry bags (the square-ish ones from the launderette for £3) and some bubble wrap. You'd be fine.

  • So I have just tried putting a 11-28 casette on my Masi CX, which has a Sora 2300 road drivetrain.
Before it was 12-25 or something Shimano HG casette, but I am now lugging my daughter around on the back, so I am desperate for easier gears.
Mostly fine, but on the 28t one there is some noise and the rear deraileur cog and the main cog are almost touching. Is there a way to remedy this? There is a screw on the silver bit that attaches to the hanger (is that the B screw?), does that influence the distance? All I need is 2 mm or so.

  • There is a screw on the silver bit that attaches to the hanger (is that the B screw?), does that influence the distance?

    Yes

  • so which way? In or out? (sorry, I know I am a noob)

  • Screw in, if that does not remedy it, sometimes fitting a slightly longer screw may.

  • cool, thnx ... I think there's like half to a third of the screw to go ... so it might help :p

What a frankenbike this has become ... LOL

  • I've tried this in the Motorcycle & Scooter thread with no answer so far:
I have a 1952 Trojan Mini Motor on a Phillips 3-speed - working about as well as you'd expect, but I'm getting very hot when pedal "assisting" up the local hills. The law says it has an engine, so a helmet is mandatory, and I'm fairly sure that a cycle helmet isn't sufficient in any legal sense.
Is there such a thing as a motorcycle helmet that is ventilated enough to be comfortable pedaling a heavy bike with an extra 20 lbs of metal bolted to it?

  • Are there any pubs around London Bridge that open early on a Saturday? There used to be a few for the market workers but can't spot any now.

  • If you're on android then OsmAnd works very well. Uses OSM maps and you can download sections for offline use. Can display GPX routes and give you turn-by-turn directions too.

If you're wanting new/up-to-date maps for a Garmin unit, then I suggest VeloMap, tutorial here.

There are tons more on YouTube - I personally found this one to be really useful. It's rare I have to do it and I forget which one is which each time.

  • Do ergopowers shift differently to shimano (i.e. paddle behind brake lever to go down a gear and thumb button to go up) or is there just something wrong with my shifter/installation of it?

  • paddle behind brake lever to go down a gear and thumb button to go up

    Correct.

I did look into this, when the engine is running you need a registration plate, MOT (daylight if no permanent lights), insurance and a helmet, engine off and boom! it's a normal bicycle.

Does the Trojan not have enough oomph to get you up the hill on it's own?

    Originally a lathe motor, IIRC.

  • How early do you need? Wheatsheaf open from 9am.
Market Porter still opens properly early but not on Saturday, think it was only ever weekday mornings.

  • Thanks @fredtc @hamrack will have a look.

  • Thanks- now I can finally fulfil my dream of owning 3 road bikes with 3 different shifting systems, physical AND mental exertion.

  • 9am will do, cheers.

  • It has to be a bit more than 'engine off' - advice from the NACC is that the engine needs to be made incapable of being started, achieved through the removal or absence of components, and just what counts as 'incapable' is a matter of judgement.
Quite correct about it originally being a light industrial engine of about 1 h.p. - enough oomph via friction drive against the tyre for around 8% inclines without pedalling - much steeper and it all slows down, and as the revs drop so does the power, hence the need for pedal assistance to keep the speed up somewhere above 15mph.
This particular problem comes from living in the Clee Hills - if I want to go more than a couple of miles from home I encounter gradients between 12% (preferred route) and 20% (very much 1 way)
If I was to be honest, the real problem is using it in the first place...
I suspect another helmet, this time with a removable liner for cleaning, is the way forward, and accept that on a warm day I'll be very warm. Unless anyone knows a better way?
