Fine by me. I don't really like the Rotor rings, and have some Praxis ones on standby for when they die. And the cassette's a Powerdome rather than the newer and lighter X-Glide. Frankly, if they take the chain with them, then that's a sacrifice worth making.

Mission Project Creep
This started off being a simple hub swap. The Dentist's Chair usually rolls on Zipp 404s, and the Zipp rear hubs are awful. They have adjustable bearing preload, and give you the option between wobbly (the wheel moves by several mm side to side) or stiff (the freehub starts dragging and the rear derailleur cage hits the chainstays when you start to freewheel). There is no happy middle ground - I know, I've spent a long time searching for it.
So I decided to switch the rear hub in the Zipps, and decided to replace it with a Tune Mag170. Rebuilding the rear wheel was a bit of a pain, given the deep rims and the spoke nipple washers, but it wasn't too bad. Job done.
But the new hubs are 11 speed, whereas the old hubs were 10 speed. Now I could of course just use a spacer and keep it as 10 speed, but it seemed a shame to be running a new 11 speed hub as 10 speed. And all I needed to change on the 6770 Di2 system to make it 11 speed was the rear derailleur, by upgrading it to a 6870 unit. And switching to 11 speed would mean I couldn't use the Chain of Tastelessness so I'd have to replace that. So, one 6870 rear derailleur required.
But then I discovered that Dura Ace Di2 shifters have a hidden button on the top of the hoods which, with the Di2/ANT+ integration, meant you could switch screens on your Garmin head unit using these hidden buttons. Cool. I like using the Garmin Remote - functionally it's great to be able to switch screens without taking your hands off the bars, but aesthetically it's fugly as hell. So, I need some Dura Ace shifters:
and the Shimano D-Link dongle which allows the Di2 system to talk to the Garmin.
Now if I'm having new shifters I'd like to upgrade to the new Junction A box, mounted underneath the stem using a Racewear 3D printed stem spacer mount. And if I've got the Junction A box, it'd be rude not to switch to a new internal battery so I can charge it from the Junction A box.
But if I'm going to use the D-Link connector then apparently I'll need to update all the firmware otherwise the D-Link won't work properly. And I can't use mismatched derailleurs (6870 rear/6770 front) once the firmware's updated. So I need a new 6870 front derailleur.
And the 9070 Dura Ace brake levers won't work very well with the 7970 Dura Ace brake calipers I've got already, so I need some 9000 series brake calipers.
While I'm at it, I may as well change the Zipp Vuka Sprint bars to the newer Zipp SL-70 Aero bars. I like the Vuka Sprints, apart from rather odd transition from the drops to the shifter hoods. Apparently the SL-70s are better in this regard, so I've got some of them.
And another thing which has always annoyed me about the S2 is the cracking seatpost. Cervelo released an updated post (called the SP6) after the 2012 model year, and the 2013 one will fit my frame, so I've got one of them.
Oh, and the cranks on the Chair are going to go onto my new Cannondale (the black and grey will match the Cannondale's paint scheme) so I got a new pair of P2M cranks for the Chair.
Nice garish FSA ones just to annoy @Dammit.
Stripped of all the parts which I'm replacing, I'm left with this.
All I have to do now is rebuild it. And maybe a test ride, as I'm planning to use it at the Mallorca 312 this weekend.

great brake caliper choice! ;)

I know. I've got 9000 DA on my Enigma ti bike in Switzerland. They are very good.

DA9K is da best! I am making my way slowly from 6800 to 9000, only FD and shifters left ..
-
• #107
So I decided to switch the rear hub in the Zipps....
-
• #108
New DA groupset scheduled for release for MY2017 though...
-
• #109
To be fair, I've condensed about 6 months' excuses, ex-post-facto rationalisation and escalating buyer tendencies into one post. But yeah, hub changes. Slippery slope.

You've kept the old bottle Cages.
Thrifty stuff.
Watch the battery drain With the D-fly. The main reason for the DA buttons as far as I can see is the fact that touch screen garmins are trolling bastards in the rain.

You need to get the sprinter shifters, I found that I rarely left the drops after I fitted them.
-
• #112
And then throw those cranks in the poubelle.
-
• #113
I can empathise.
I was going to upgrade the groupset on my Paduano. Today I ordered a new frame to fit the Sram Etap and Zipp wheels too...

Ha!

Absolutely this.
Sprint shifters are sooo useful.

Sell old Vuka Sprints

I thought about the sprinter shifters. Maybe next time I replace the bartape. I haven't got time to order and fit them on this rebuild.
-
• #118
I empathise with your plight too. I was looking at S3 frames earlier today, wondering if a new frameset wasn't called for too...

• #119
Sell old Vuka Sprints
Might do. There's a bit of damage to the lacquer on the LHS drop where I've fitted the shifter, but other than that they're mint. You interested in them?

This

• #121
Depends on width and price.
-
• #122
They're 44cm bars. Haven't thought about price yet.
-
• #123
Definitely too wide for me then, thanks.
-
• #124
Thought they might be. I'm sure I'll find a use for them...

Watch the battery drain With the D-fly.
Di2 battery or Garmin? Former, don't care, latter, do care!
It's going to last a really, really long time... and probably wear everything else out faster!
