  • Too much time spent off cam, no lairy powerslides and you didn't end up in a field once.

    4/10 must try harder.

  • Short back and side or frosted tips and demi wave?

Go to an alvis owners club meeting and turn up in a stalwart. Sense of humour fail...

  • Too low and wrong grill.

  • I know, it's a pretty boring video, I only really uploaded it for the sound of the car.

There was a mobile camera van, I saw a police motorbike, the road was damp in many places, and there was snow on some verges from that light dusting on Saturday, so I wasn't pushing it in the slightest. Only that bit where you can hear me exclaim "fuck me" is me getting anywhere near >50-60% of the grip available, and it caught me by surprise how much tighter that corner was than I thought it was.

What would have been a much more entertaining and only 10 second long clip would have been the wet uphill hairpin on the way to the Evo Triangle which I managed to powerslide almost perfectly, much to the dismay of the driver of the car some distance behind who showed either their appreciation or unhappiness through the medium of flashing lights and repeated horn use. Sadly the camera was not recording :-(

  • excuses excuses

  • Yokohama Advan Sport V105S. Anyone had any experience of these?
Just purchased a full set for the Bimmer as I couldnt find any stock of my regular Michelin Pilot Supersports in the required rear size. Being fitted on Saturday. Never had Yokos before, so will report back.

They have the Evo magazine seal of approval....

  • i have a mate that does mobile tyre fitting, if anyone ever needs tyres in london. pretty reasonable, too. i had 4 new mitchy ps4s on the golf a fortnight ago.

  • I miss my golf.

Got to get it back on the road soon!

@citron my dad had one of them, the engine exploded and was pretty expensive but the sound system was banging.

  • What are they like?
Was looking at them too, but my annoying staggered wheels make finding the correct size rears a pain.

  • okay, i suppose. i am not dead.

I have done about 350 miles with them. mostly motorway miles and not really any hooning, nor any need for hard braking.

they replaced the OG (!!!) tyres on the car that were from 2006. they were showing cracks and the fronts were worn, but with rotation, i reckon they could have got another 10k.

i am always suspicious about wild claims of tyre awesomeness.

  • I see.
I'll be lucky if i get more than 6/7 months out of them, so it's not like i'm going to have to live with them for years if they are pants. They will see about an 80/20 mix of motorway/hooning.

  • I believe US motoring journalists prefer the PS4s over the PSSs for daily driving due to the increased wet grip and wear rating.

  • I've not tried any Yokos other than their semi slicks and their "trackday" tyres like the Parada Spec 2, AD08R. Heard mixed reviews.

  • I had a set of Yokey Kokeys on the M3 years ago. I found them to be really grippy (even in the wet) but I did get through them fairly quickly - bear in mind that it was 2006 and back then I was driving like a bit of a cunt. When the bloke at Elite took them off he thought the rears were semi slicks.

  • wow. i will do about 5k a year in the gti and about 3k in the b, depending on holidays

  • i think the yokos vary wildly, depending on the tyre. like nh, i have only run the parada and a048rs on the track (apart from the 265/50r14 a352s on the kingswood!!).

  • I had a go in a Mini with Yoko A008R semi slicks on 10" wheels and the grip was unreal.

  • Just ordered one of these for meself...

    Limited edition too. :o)

  • Right, need the hive mind on this.

My dad finally decided on a new car, a BMW X1 4x4 with the 150hp engine.

He now decided that the old Toyota Corolla Verso is too old to sell, and might as well run it down until it's effectively scrap.

At the moment it got a 190hp diesel engine but with appalling mpg (35-40mpg), beside changing the way he drive it, and reducing the weight, does remapping the engine to lower the horsepower to says 110-130hp might help? I've read conflicting review saying remapping it to increase power would mean the car won't work as hard and thus less fuel needed.

  • For a diesel engine it is pretty appalling when the BMW is not only quicker, cheaper to tax (122g/km) and insured, but managed a smug above 50mpg.

So effectively the Toyota is expensive in every sense! (Abet last forever with no issues for 75,000 miles).

  • Sell it to your local minicab firm.

I can almost guarantee that they'll get another 100k miles out of it on the same clutch/brakepads and other consumables...

  • All the evidence points to that conclusion.

  • Forgive me for this but you're quite a big lad, aren't you?

I'd have thought that a Lotus would be a bit of a squeeze, but a three-wheeled Moggy?

    You're crackers.

  • they're pretty fucking cool, though...
