For a diesel engine it is pretty appalling when the BMW is not only quicker, cheaper to tax (122g/km) and insured, but managed a smug above 50mpg.
So effectively the Toyota is expensive in every sense! (Abet last forever with no issues for 75,000 miles).
The difference in cost between 40 and 50mpg over an average 12,000 mile year is maybe £150.
Not worth worrying about.
BMW will be the same or worse.
When was the last time it was serviced? fuel filter etc.
Does he thrash it?
