• Not necessary - I did a test on my P2M ages ago with different chainrings (even oval ones) and especially with round rings the way they've built them means you don't need to change the slope. You can't either!

  • That's good. Thanks.

Do you know what it is they've done differently to SRM to allow for that? I presume its based on the position and fixation of strain gauges.

  • It's two parts - because they use accelerometers measuring at super high frequency rather than reed switches it makes them far more immune to inflation with non round rings (if you're using round rings), and then the spider is super overbuilt so that changing ring types has less effect. The old SRM amateurs were overbuilt (like the SRM track cranks) and they're less susceptible to slope changes than standard SRM pros.

  • Interesting, thanks.

  • Anyone used the old style Power2Max with the temp fix?

What's the difference between it and the Type-S? Is it just a bit heavier?

  • best to ask steve i or jim ley

I think with temp comp they're meant to be ok.

  • Yup - I have a classic p2max - post temp fix. Its a bit heavier, the battery compartment is bigger and takes very specific batteries (renata branded only). That's the sum total of the differences though - the gauges etc are all the same.

  • I have. I've got 3 of them. You have to be a bit careful replacing the battery - if you strip the threads holding the battery cover in place then it's a goner. But no complaints - they seem to work fine.

  • They say you have to be careful with the S-Type too. Are the Classics more susceptible to thread damage?

  • I doubt it. You'd have to be pretty ham-fisted to damage it. But I don't think I've ever changed the battery in my S-type, so it's hard to compare.

  • I have, you'd have to really be trying to mess it up, it's just a little fiddly as you have to access the screws from behind the spider.

  • The screws are pretty small. When sending mine back on warranty I figured I'd give them a bit extra. Since I didnt want to be accused of not sealing the unit properly.

Put the PM in its Box. Closed the lid and saw the 'warranty void is overtorqued' sticker.

    Opps.

    Backed them off. Was fine.

The fuckers are those rubber plugs. How are you mean to remove them without tearing them into little pieces!

  • Is £450 good for a 2nd hand S-type Power2Max on Rotor 3d 24? Someone selling some locally and I'm tempted, although its 130mm bcd which isn't as versatile as a 110 or shimano 4bolt.

  • With cranks and chain rings? Any idea how much usage it's had?

  • I should declare an interest here, as I'll be selling my s type on Rotor 3D cranks shortly.

  • I haven't seen it but they say mostly used on turbo and in superb condition, yeah, with cranks and FSA rings.

I need to see if I can sell my Knight 65s to buy a PM and disc...

  • I access the screws from behind the spider on the Type-S too.

  • I used pointy-nose pliers the first time and the second time the cranks were off the bike so I used fingers. Piece of piss.

  • Didn't I buy yours already?

I'm buying a set of crank arms so might be in the market for yet another P2M... to suit a Rotor 3D+ ?

  • 'Cos @andyp's are for 3D24 24mm cranks, and 3D+ is a 30mm spindle crank?

  • I still have no idea about all their stupid model names.

My cranks are either: "DA", "S-Works", or "those fucking ones there"

  • You need more cranks.

  • Can you believe I just bought another set?

155mm Rotors... that now need another P2M...

    I think I need help.

  • Nah, you're not even close. I'm about to order my 5th P2M. If help is needed, I'm ahead in the queue.

  • Most of my meters are Powertaps. How many bikes do you own? How many powermeters? Want to sell me a 3D+ Type-S?

I've got £2500 of parts here or 'on order' none of which I can use because no farkin' eejit will send me the cranks I need. Fucking Cannondale morons. I knew there was a reason I hated that brand.
