Right-o thanks! I believe that's just a 'reset' (per the manual). Hard reset is the stuff i said above.

Oh, hrm. I'd always used hard reset to mean "reset when its unresponsive", i.e. holding down power. I'd call the power/lap/reset a factory reset. But google says you're right and I'm happy to go with that.
(not /sarc, just for clarity. I've learned something)
