the latest in the novel of swede's caad10 disc. madison credited the rear brake under warranty on monday (after having the brake for almost 2 weeks) and said a new one will be shipped out asap.
today, still no disc brake (planning to ride this weekend), mud dock call madison and ask wtf is going on "oh yeah that brake is on back order. won't be in stock until july 30th"
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU why didn't you say that on monday you cunts!!! would have ordered another from bike discount then.
all in all, I have just ordered another caliper from bike discount - and will have a spare sometime in july. fucking brilliant

Hello everybody,
I'm thinking about getting a new bike. Currently ride a Planet X Pro Carbon, I have no complaints but want something a touch better for Sunday Best so I can relegate the Pro Carbon to everyday trainer.
I like the look of the CAAD10 and 12 - can someone briefly explain the differences between the two framesets? Is it just a matter of weight?
I would really like di2, so my thinking was to potentially buy something like this - http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/road-bikes-c5/road-c37/cannondale-caad12-ultegra-3-elite-road-bike-2016-p13860/s39900?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=cannondale-caad12-ultegra-3-elite-road-bike-2016-size-58cm-size-58cm-c13246m5058&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=CIeQvKWaoswCFasV0wodTaEF7w sell most of it except frame and then replace with di2 - is this model frame the same as that of the more expensive (yellow) DA bike they do?
My initial thinking was that I would need to save up quite a bit more money and then go for something like a Canyon Ultimate CF SLX, but from everything I read there seems to be the consensus that these CAAD's can offer comparable performance to most carbon frames. I'm not hugely fussy about weight, so long as it doesn't end up ridiculously heavy.
Input would be appreciated, cheers!

CAAD12 frames are the same, just diff paint jobs. You can buy frame only for £700.

Do you know if they do a non-disc version of the frameset as I can't seem to find one. Or should I be considering discs?

Or should I be considering discs?
No.

are you a giant? bike looks tiny!

Looking like a hellish nightmare for servicing.

Always considers disc if you can afford to.

my hesitations over discs are that
(1. whatever I get will be old-hat and surpassed by something better within 6 months
(2. They'll cause issues in r.e. to maintenance - I'm an absolutely terrible mechanic at the best of times and standard calipers are just about doable for me currently!I guess I could always go for the DA Disc version OTP, I do fancy electronic though.
If you went for frameset only and bought di2, would you need to purchase different shifters for discs?

I wont go disc in your situ.
To concur those two issues that you've mentioned they need another couple of years.

I'm actually surprised we have got this far and we've not yet seen DAcaliper.jpg

ha! I am really not against them but its still a bit early.
I am also lusting over a CAAD12 caliper build and I have no reason to get another road bike ..

I have been considering bike upgrade for an age, am beginning to veer more to this idea. But still not sure if I will regret not going for a (pricier) carbon offering. Also the paint on that 12 frameset is really crap, would need to get it sprayed into something more RAAD than CAAD if you catch my drift

CAADs ride really nice tbf so not going carbon is something that you wont regret.
Dont paint, it adds weight ;)

Does anyone have any opinion on di2 vs. mechanical ultegra. I am largely swayed by the former just because it looks/sounds cool
-
• #5094
Di2 is nice. Do it if you can afford.

I rode a hire bike with (10spd) di2 for a week earlier in the year, and have just built up a bike with mechanical Ultegra. I much prefer mechanical Ultegra, being able to use the whole lever to make a shift, rather than hitting a tiny button just seems far more practical.
There seems to be very little to improve tbh, and di2 is another thing to remember to charge (infrequently), and, good luck diagnosing/fixing any issues.
I'd also never considered discs until seeing the CAAD 10 disc frameset, and whilst I'm not replacing every bike I have with discs, I'm pretty impressed with them. It makes sense with a bike thats going to see all year use, and has space to fit pretty wide tires.
I know you're planning on having it as a summer best bike, but I'd think it would be a shame to limit it (by forcing it to have narrow tires) with caliper brakes

and, regarding points 1 & 2, everything is obsolete these days. If you want to wait for something definitive, you'll be waiting a long time. Discs are only new on road bikes, they are c. 15 years old on MTB, and a pretty mature / stable standard. And if you're worried about maintenance, get cable discs. For all @edscoble 's snobbery, they really are pretty good, and are a very simple system to set up/maintain

You make some very valid points! This is the issue I guess, pros for both sides. So if you were me, you'd just get the yellow 12 with DA and discs and be done with it?

I'm currently riding in the Pyrenees with a carbon disc bike with 105/HY/RD.
It's so nice being able to gently brakes extremely late at 70km/h in a hairpin bend.
And no need to change the pads, even if you live in the Pyrenees for a year.
Seriously considered it, ignore @amey disdain toward disc as he have never ridden a full road hydro set up.

Yes, yellow CAAD12 and disc, enough clearance for 32mm tyres too.

Thank you for your input, appreciate it. Also that saddlebag is ace, where's it from?

So once again, a manufacturer has to recall products because of user stupidity/error.
