Other suggestions look sound, but I've had really good winter and commuting mileage out of a Continental Grand Prix (not 4000s/i/ii/ x etc). On top of 2000 miles around Ireland #boastpost
It's a comfortable tyre too, although only goes up to 28c. Cheap too.
