  • Ah, bang some 28s on it, my Giant is super comfy with 27/28s on it.

  • Nah, then my mudguards won't fit.

  • I have same with the Giant. But bought decent overshoes and fook the mudguards.

  • But it's the commuter. I would ride one of the two other road bikes if I wanted a wet arse.

  • Aye. I only have the one, until the eldest gets bored of my cross check, then that'll go back to being my commuter.

  • Race alu or carbon road bike/frame with fender mounts and rim brakes? What's there to look at other than the Kinesis 4s and Dolan Dual?

  • is the BTWIN Triban 500 SE the best value road bike or are the gears made of cheese and to be passed over in favour of the triban 520? are these the best under 500 quid bikes?

  • It is the best value road bike, the only thing worth doing is to get it check out by a reputable LSB to ensure everything's tighten correctly and sorted.

The 520 is a better value because of the full Sora kit, but still can't go wrong with the £300 one.

  • cheers ed. is it worth paying the extra to get sora? (not a euph)

  • Personally, yes, but if you're seriously just looking for a cheap road bike with money left over, then no.

  • Just done a read up on the 520/540 triban, claims that it will fit up to 32c tyre is interesting to say the least.

  • It got long drop brakes on it, rear defintely 32mm.

  • Is the Triban 540 with 105 the best 105 bike to go for at £499? Got a bike4work voucher so can't buy secondhand. Thanks.

  • It'll be a great bike for £500 I'm sure. The latest Tiagra 4700 is nicer than the 10 speed 5700 105 though so I wouldn't get hung up on having a bike with 105.

  • With Cycle to Work schemes looming I'm thinking about something that I can winter commute on, do some off roading and light touring in the future.

I think I want steel (but not exactly sure) is one of the various Crois de Fers (20?) the best bet? Or maybe the new disc Brother Kepler (mainly because of the paint).

Any thoughts on the above? Further recommendations - I'm happy to get LBS to build to a spec or buy complete.

  • Genesis day one?

  • I just feel that if I''m going to have brakes I may as well have gears.

  • Looking for a bike in c2w scheme for my commute which 3 days to my office in north london. Nice all rounder mudguards. However i could forgive if not. Not sure on discs just yet. I recently saw the pearson upandatem 1k alu 105.
    Any others?

  • 28c, direct mount AND mudguard mounts!

  • 30c, mudguard mounts, 199£
