Just picked up this Jack Taylor from an eBay buy. The original owner bought it in 1980 and it's pretty much as was, original racks and the paint is pretty sound. Needs a good polish and buff and I'm going to change the bars, saddles and mudguards but pretty much good to go. Original purchase price was £860 which was a lot in 1980 I guess.

URL shorteners are evil, the attachment system on this forum is excellent

Having had my tandem crashed by a mate and then new forks made, a new downtube put in, a re-spray and some parts changed. My tandem is finally ridable 1.5 years after being given it for my birthday! Obviously now spent way too much money on it but i think it was worth it. Very excited to go on some rides ASAP

Sick faedz, needs more anti, maybe fluoro pedals or tape?
-
• #457
I think its almost tasteful!
I considered the flouro tape but decided against it.
Definately need new pedals though. Probably not fluro ones though.

Hello everybody. I'm searching a rim for my next tandem.
I would like a 36-40h 650b disc rim, something modern for the style, I will ride it with some "panaracer" gravel tires+ rolhoff you know what i am saying.

So I cocked up an order for my tandem quill - ahead convertor.
Turns out the tandem is 1 1/4". Does anyone know where I can get a 1 1/4" threaded to threadless ahead convertor?

This now fits me - little more work required for the stoker. 10 mile shakedown went good today, 50 miles planned for tomorrow.

I've found it hard to get sufficient reach for the stokers on these frames. Next to land is to try a longer stem so the 'horns' of the bars are in a better place.

Tyres - currently on Marathon Plus. Worth going for anything a bit lighter (i.e. faster) or will they explode?

I did our first tour on some standard conti something sport 28s (though they definitely looked like they came up wide). No problems.

Continental Contact II are pretty good (and are actually rated for tandem use). In 32mm they are about 550g which has got to be about 200g less than a Marathon Plus. We're happy touring on them for sure, roll along nice enough and seem strong.
On the rare occasions we want to be a little zippier, then 28mm 4 Seasons are plenty good enough for the job.
We're a fairly light team at around 120kg.

Note to self: Sharpie over the tyre markings so that @umop3pisdn doesn't get scared by the <200g tyres

We have the original (!) Continental Top Touring, still haven't exploded. Going for marathon supremes at the first excuse. Friends run gatorskins with no problem.

I run 23mm bontrager something or others with no issues

I really rate the marathon supremes we have on our tandem. Done plenty of miles with no punctures and they roll very well.

32c front and back.

We're on Paselas (35mm), super fast rollings and they're tandem rated. Don't last quite as well as MarathonPlus though obviously.
Buy the whole thing, then part out the tandem...?
