They're for dickheads who haven't figured out that a paper inner sleeve between the slipmat and your treasured 45 will do the same job...

Srsly... I'd imagine it'd make the groove more stable so might improve stylus tracking...

cuts the resonance from the vinyl making a tighter sound , cutting feedback maybe in club PA......but of course depends whether it is heavy vinyl or not and whether the arm is balanced correctly for the cartridge and whether the dj is playing samba .

I released a few records in the 90s. For one release I ended up owning a 'metal master'. It is a playable, heavy, cold metal 12" disc. It was labelled as a test pressing - from NSC as it happens - techno heads take note. I have never understood were a metal master might fit into the process of making vinyl. Never seen one since either.

Weights can put extra stress on the motor though.
A clamp is a similar solution without the weight. I have a Clear Audio Clever Clamp for playing warped records but it also changes the sound of non warped records. Whether it sounds better or not is debatable.

Surely if you're happy to play warped records, you'd not give that much of a toss about sound fidelity?
I've bought enough Bollywood that i'm grateful I can hear the music above the sound of bacon and eggs frying...

I'm not sure about 45s but trying to cue up a taco'd 12" with 10 seconds left isn't nice.

anyone recommend online source of standard Stanton styli for 1210's

It's not that I'm particularly happy about it, it's that I've never found another suitable replacement for sale or for sale at a reasonable price (compared to the £20 cost of the clever clamp, which does work.)

Although I didn't get down on the day, a friend has been to pick up some RSD Records for me.
It's difficult wading through it all to pick items that aren't already readily available or items that are going to get a wider release later on (J. Dilla is one - £27 RSD release or £22 next month is an easy choice to make!)
Anyway, I got everything I wanted so I'm pretty happy:
Cavern of Anti Matter - Void Versions
Ecstacy Club - Jesus Loves Acid
Field Music - Field Music
Loose Joints - Pop Your Funk
Mew - And Glass Handed Kites
Regina Spector - Soviet Kitsch
Various - New Orleans Funk 7" set
Blanck Mass - The Great Confuso
Junior Kimbrough - I Gotta Try You Girl (Daft Punk Rmx)
Wake Up You Vol.1 (The Rise and Fall of Nigerian Rock Music)Did anyone else get anything good?

I picked up The Shaggs, The Leftovers, No Anchor and the Hard-Ons RSD 45s... Only one worldwide official release, the others were all local unaffiliated RSD things... Would've loved a copy of the first Metal Urbain 45 but I've already got the OG so it would've only been my DJ copy anyway, I play it all the time... Bought a few other singles by Happy Times (Brisbane) and DEAD (Melbourne) too... Great day, saw at least 15 bands and most were great too... Brisbane is seriously kicking...

I might be opening myself up for lols, but are there any forum types who are in to prog, psych, beat etc?
I've spent the last 15 years buying stuff like this to play out, so lots of one trackers on the shelves. Now I have a small human to look after, I rarely get the chance so am trying to distill the collection a little.
Considering doing a sale post here if there would be any interest at all. I guess I'm talking Finders Keepers style stuff - European fuzz, Bollywood wonky disco and so on. -

Yes please, send me a list (with prices!) if you're happy to post to Oz... Not into prog (as such) but with you on the other stuff, 45s only, obvs...
-
• #141
yes definitely - a list for me too pls!
-
• #142
Ok cool. It might take me a while to get a proper list together, but will see what I can achieve :-)
Probably LPs first, then 45s. My 45s are in a shamefully disorganised state at the moment... -
• #143
Definitely!

Just put them in a big box (very carefully) and I'll send you fifty quid... Lovely jubbly... 😋

-

50 quid for all my Petula Clark and Johnny Halliday raers seems like a good deal to me :-)

Johnny Hallyday is a Belgian musical genius!

Hey @AlexD I'd be interested to. I have from time to time bought whole collections from people, so let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.
I may post up some records for sale too, if people would be interested. I would say selling on discogs is a way nicer experience than ebay though.
I'm sure the French House Mafia will come out for those Petula Clark raers.
Do weights like Mastersounds add anything beyond being able to play dished vinyl?
