You can always get 4700 on the other bike as it felt identical, just heavier, cheaper nd 10 speeds.

Cheers man. I need to find a less shouty background for some proper pictures once I finish tweaking it

Indexed ones are much easier to get used to, maybe give them a try...

Yeah it's the taking hands off handlebars and reaching down that's the problem, she's not a super confident cyclist.
Embarrassingly (for me) we got some shitty hire bikes last year that had grip shift and Mrs TM loved the shifters so much I got her a gripshift to fit.... whatever makes her happy and gets her out on her bike!

Glad to have picked up this unhappy looking machine today as they don't come along too often.
No solid build plans yet. French bits would be nice.

What is it exactly? Looks peculiar.

It's a Vitus ZX1, one of the first carbon monocoque frames. This one is from around 1991.

Yeah that's understandable, the ex gf had the same issue and indexed was easier to handle, may as well use mtb shifters though...
Edit:
retro mtb friction shifters are alright to use
Props to @Dick for dropping these wheels off last night. Couldn't find a Seta so these were my consolidation buy. Gonna set this up as a summer long distance bike, stem slam and bars will be rotated eventually. Needless to say these sound awesome:
