  • Educated? Middle Class?

I have certainly pulled the wool over your eyes.

That was a bit flippant but yes, of course I recognise privilege. I do think you're being a little harsh on Greenhell though, he was just trying to look out for the guy a bit.

Sometimes, it's difficult getting it right all the time and people do slip up or use the wrong terminology or are clumsy in their wording etc. I had to leave a party in disgrace not so long ago because I'd dared to gender a cat.... Apparently, it's not up to me to decide.

  • Yeah, genuine apologies - I'm making a sweeping generalisation that most people on this site are middle class (fixehs are pricey), and young, educated (mostly) males.

Generalisations are always going to have some anomalies (yeah, you heard me!)

No offence meant to @greenhell. Christ knows I've said stuff in the past (including the 'we're all on the spectrum' thing), but have since learned that it isn't acceptable. I was raised in a feminist, hardened socialist, lesbian household and work with young people with mental health and learning difficulties, and so I appreciate that I may be highly-sensitised to the language people use.

I'm also currently in the throes of completing stuff for a Psychology masters on feminist/critical psychology and masculinity, so these sort of things are at the forefront of my thinking right now.

Greenhell had good intentions, I'm sure, but unless people are told that these things aren't OK then they'll continue to do them. I would like to think greenhell appreciates that, as I know I would.

It is difficult getting it right all the time, as you say, as there is always going to be someone more 'right on' than you. It's a funny one. People using how PC they are as a stick to beat others with. Odd.

I met some amazing people growing up, but I'm not sure any of them would have got upset about you gendering their cat. Perhaps that shows how far/backwards we have come.
