Will club events count for a club record though?
-
• #12353
Not usually.
-
• #12354
Just do it on the H10/8.
-
• #12355
Most of the H10/8 events I've got other stuff on. But I don't think I've done a 10 on that course so I would get a course PB :)
I've done hundreds of miles up and down that road during training and racing over the last couple of years, so I'm not exactly excited by it.

Wow, 12½ hours to practice before the start. No excuse for going off course in that one.

Oops....

I'd still take a wrong turn.

Club Records
It's been suggested that my club should recognise a 'Medium Gear 10' record.
The proposal is that the record should be restricted to an 'Athlete's' bike - that is to say a non aero machine. There's no need to go into exactly what that is, I'm sure you get the general idea.I'm not sure yet whether this will be accepted, but an idea has come into my mind:
- An 'aero' medium gear 10 would demonstrate the potential to be achieved by fast pedalling.
but,
- An 'Athlete's' 25 (no gear restriction) would give present day riders some idea of how their times compare with Alf's 49 minute ride and those of the other heroes of the past.
I'm not suggesting there would be anything scientific about this, just that it might be interesting (and possibly fun too).
I'd be interested to read any comments you have, especially if anyone thinks it might work for their club.

You'll end up arguing for weeks over what exactly an athlete's or old-school bike actually is. Probably best to leave equipment choice open within the current CTT regulations, because somebody will always argue that whatever somebody does on a full 1970 bike build is not a valid comparison with the olden days because their clothing is 20W better than 70s clothing. Also, restricting equipment is fine for those of us who still have our 1980s and 1990s TT bikes (and I can fit on my dad's 1940s bike if we want to go back that far), but it's not really fair to somebody who wasn't even born until 2000 to make them acquire a special bike just to have a crack at the record.

Drop-bar road bike, no frame sections more aero than 2:1, alloy rims no deeper than Shamal?
-
• #12363
Just make it drop bar only and nothing deeper than ~30mm rims.
-
• #12364
That pretty much makes my point - ask 10 people to devise old-school regulations and you'll get 10 different sets of regulations. UCI "Athlete's Hour" regulations are not bad, but they still allow substantial gains for somebody prepared to build a special bike, so it's still ends up with an arms race.

Really disappointing day on h25/2, power was a bit down on what I was targeting, but not many fast times out there! 55:23.
Does cold make things that slow?
-
• #12367
Normally yes, as colder air is denser.
-
• #12368
Cambridge CC's Mercx class is exactly that:
No tri bars
No rims deeper than 30mm
No pointy hatsIt works fine, people understand the spirit.

will be interesting to hear @hippy's thoughts as either something went wrong for him or the cold air really does have a massive effect!
there were definitely some pacing issues as i averaged 287 and spent the lsat 4 minutes at 325ap, so left it a bit late for a final push!

Shit ride. Andy H said most people who rode E2 last week were 3min down due to lower traffic count and temp. I was 5min down. Just couldn't be fucked with it. Only kept pedaling to make sure I went under the hour so I never have to ride it again.

I was pretty broken before the start to be honest. I was tempted not to bother but I wanted to kill off that 1:00:04 that pissed me off so much all that time ago.
Gym early Friday morning meant I had mad DOMS this morning. Going out to see Hardfloor play on Friday night didn't help (bit excited, got home Sat morning pretty feckin' drunk, didn't help recovery).
Race itself was pretty dodgy - start descent I was maxed out and a truck passed and I thought "sweet I'll hang onto that bastard all the way..." and then got karma got me and I caught his dirty air, speed wobbled and had to grab the start bars. At the first rise my legs just didn't want to work.
Passed some bloke before the turn and then Garmin went mental at me even though I was sure I was right - I slowed so much through the turn the guy I passed caught me and start calling directions out! Towed him along for a bit but by now I'd lost interest. Just tapped it out knowing I could sit on 200W and still finish with a 27mph average.Should've just done my training ride.

saw your time, they'd just written it up as I was heading out for the rest of my training ride, but thanks for the context behind it, makes me feel a little less frustrated with the course - going to do the high Wycombe event on the 22nd May and hope for better weather/traffic - I think I got passed by three cars between Sonning and the a404.
I had someone sit on my wheel after I'd overtaken him at the turn, so checked it was clear and just rode to the right of the lane for a bit and he soon faded away without someone to draft off, thought the rules said after you've been overtaken you have to ease off to avoid taking pace...

• #12373
@frank9755 any idea on when the start sheet for your clubs event is coming out? Have the receipt from CTT for entering so deffo did that bit but haven't seen anything for it yet!
-
• #12374
Could've got on the podium if I actually pedaled the second half. :P

They do but I didn't give a shit - I'd put time into him already and I'd probably fucked his rhythm up for the turn sitting up and looking around so much while the Garmin squealed at me. Like I said, I'd lost interest in it by then.
What's more annoying is when you're unseeded and get someone similarly paced nearby. In my case I pass people on the flat and then get passed on hills and then have to repass - over and over. I've had this in 100s and 12hrs so it's quite annoying when you're trying to evenly pace it.
VC10 normally do Weds evening Club TTs on the F11 during the summer.
