I've been using a tassimo for convenience coffee past couple of years, got an aeropress a while ago and now just use that. Time wise doesn't make much difference once the kettle is boiled and definitely a nicer cup.

It's generally for the morning before I leave for work where I find pouring milk over alpen and feeding cats is challenging. Aeropress is beyond my abilities until after I've had a bike ride

Ah... Cats. You should have said.
Not sure how familiar you are with the different systems buy with nespresso the coffee is in liquid form and the machine just dilutes it with hot water.
Tassimo has ground coffee in the pod and forces hot water through the pod, producing fresh coffee.
Personally I prefer the tassimo system, knowing its ground coffee inside rather than pre brewed concentrated stuff. I've used nespresso a few times though and you do get good coffee from them.

Significantly below budget, I've been using one of these since Christmas, I'm not an expert barista but I think it gives great results and widely variable grind.

Had a Gaggia that I picked up from @Lew_redd, didn't use too much and ended up selling it to @amey.
Bought a Sage/Breville Barista Express a few weeks back and been impressed.
Seemingly decent burr grinder on the left side and a (single) PID controlled boiler on the right with steam wand.
Used an Aeropress before (and still do) but this does seem to make a decent espresso. Pressure gauge and dosing controls seem to let you figure out and adjust what you're doing to a degree. -

That Gaggia has stopped working and I am too lazy to fix it so if anyone handy wants it you can have it cheappp.
I bought DJ's Silvia and its working perfectly! Its way beyond me though with the fancy PID etc.

Oh, balls :(
The wheels haven't exploded though, right? -

ha! nope, they are buttery smooth :)

From what I understand the static could be a build up of oil, the type of beans, and the heat generated by the grinder. Giving the grinder a good clean may help although I found with the Vario that it didn't always solve the problem hence using the cup trick.
The Mignon sounds a better grinder than the Vario if you ignore the clumping problem (which is relatively minor). The burrs are really expensive on the Vario and the lever slippage is quite annoying to say the least.

Thanks I did clean it recently.
As was said before, mine has got better the more coffee i've ground in it. So hopefully that trend continues.

Coffee Festival was good, lots and lots of stalls, much coffee tried.
The coffee pairings with food were good but tiny, so felt very overpriced. The final coffee served from and open saucer was a delicious Kenyan natural.
So many different coffee suppliers in attendance. Lots of coffee tried, brewing is clearly continuing to grow.

The whole thing seemed pretty overpriced.
I would have liked to have gone and would have if I were free, but through gritted teeth at the cost. When I went to the spin vs lcf thing a few years ago I was pretty jittery that afternoon!

Sometimes instant is unavoidable, right? Well it is at my work anyway. Lavazza Prontissimo Intenso is best I've had, but availability seems limited ATM.

Treated myself to a ceramic v60 1 cup for work. Impulse buy but sure to be vast improvement on French Press sludginess.
-
• #11795
Yeah, decent buy that. I've got more espresso machine projects than I have enthusiasm for already and that's no beauty so I'll pass. Cheers for the shout though.

I got a V60 #2 this week, its a revalation! Really easy to make 3/4 cups of coffee in one go, compared to an aeropess. Used it this morning to fill a thermos for nice coffee at work!

We've been loving our V60 02 for a while now. Never going back to cafetiere.

Can anyone recommend a decent machine engineer in South/East/Central? My Wega one groupset has stopped pumping water through, I have changed the pump, and filled the boiler with descaler so I have run out of ideas.
The last chap i used was in Gravesend and took 6 weeks for a descale, charged me £250 and cracked my pump. Git.

Yeah I thought about a Vario. But decided not int he end, look a very nice grinder.
Tried the plastic cup, but just statics into that and sticks to the cup.
What could be causing all the static?
