The front mech broke on this today, not sure whether to search for a 9-speed Shimano front mech (holla if you've got one one) or seeing as the groupset is really old take this as a cue to move to 11s, probably 105
In the meantime I've taken the mech off leaving it 1 x 9. I'm supposed to be racing a crit tomorrow, big ring only is no problem but will the chain jump ship? Anything I can do to prevent it?
whats broken on the mech? if cage, mount and adjuster screws are still ok you could reinstall it for safety/peace of mind and adjust the screws so they keep the chain in that position. ghetto chainguard which has been done since ages
The stainless thread insert for the cable clamping bolt has pulled out but it's working otherwise. So with no cable attached I can use the low limit screw to push the cage over to the big ring? Sounds like exactly the temporary solution I was after, thanks
