You should be able to if you have the long cage road derailleur, but can still just use an MTB derailleur to get a wide range (11-32 even).
You'll be fine, if you commute and ride a lots, then 11-28 is perfectly doable unless you're riding with front and rear panniers.

52-39-30 I believe.
I don't really want to buy a new derailleur/cassette if I buy a whole group. Might look around a little more and so some research.
Also looking into a set of SRAM Force 10 speed shifters and compact chainset. Might buy that and an MTB derailleur (X9?) and cassette. That would work?

I'm currently looking at a nice second hand Ultegra 6700 triple groupset, but it has a 52 chainring. This means I can't use a 11-30 cassette right? Because of the capacity. What's the point of a triple if I can't even get a 1:1 ratio?
If I'm correct I can fit a 11-28 cassette max, but I'm wondering if that will be enough (not sure what terrain I'll be doing, but I don't want to be under geared).
