I'm currently looking at a nice second hand Ultegra 6700 triple groupset, but it has a 52 chainring. This means I can't use a 11-30 cassette right? Because of the capacity. What's the point of a triple if I can't even get a 1:1 ratio?
If I'm correct I can fit a 11-28 cassette max, but I'm wondering if that will be enough (not sure what terrain I'll be doing, but I don't want to be under geared).
If you're riding fully loaded with front and rear panniers, the 52t chainring probably won't see any action except alpine descend maybe if you got good brakes.

Is that definitely true? You could always switch the 52t for a 50t if the RD/chain can't take the range.
Thanks both.
