I've had a shimano alfine dynamo on my tourer/commuter/off road/everything bike for 2 years and it has never disappointed. I even crashed into a bog of eternal stench on a honey badger ride where the whole bike was submerged and the hub shrugged it off.
I believe they will work with a plug3/sinewave type thing but I haven't used one.

Have just ordered a new functional bike, want to add Dynamo lighting but since I've just jizzed all my dish on the bike, I'm on a budget.
Shimano hubs any use? Will they run one of these usb headset caps (likely future addition) of do I need something fancier for that?
Quite like the velogical rim drive dynamo as well, anyone got any feedback on it?
