This morning's commute and other commuting stories

Yeah, you're right. My point was, it's not really about who's right or wrong. Accidents happen and can have tragic consequences. I don't like the idea of a rider lecturing a semi-dazed women about looking both ways before she crosses the street and shouting at other witnesses. In both cases, we heard only the riders' points of view in which they assess 100% of the blame on the pedestrian. I can sympathise with the post-accident adrenaline rush, however.

That said, heal up rider, I hope you're ok.

Train for me today, woke up with a big cut on my leg, seems fine. No idea how it got there but will review the go pro footage of last nights ride home for clues. No buses to the train station this morning because someone managed to park their car upside down on the main road.

had a fun one yesterday — overtook an older lady cycling as a moped decided to UNDERtake her at the same time from further back. Both swung back into line once had passed and he hit me! Was pulling away from lights so no dangerous speeds involved but a moped hitting your ankle still isn't great! Somehow didn't come off...

A nice uneventful ride! Just how I like it.

Turns out that fell off a couple of times while stationary at lights. Moral of the story being that when you're a bit too squiffy to stand up, don't stop at reds as its more than just your foot that'll make contact with the floor.

Come on, tell us what really happened, you got in a fight over the last box of McNuggets in the Chingford McDonald's didn't you.

Belm ped this morning, red ped light, green for me in the car, utterly oblivious. Had to toot horn, then she noticed and stopped. Some people just don't get their coffee in the morning so you have to anticipate.

Slow & anticipate = Boring and also no dents/lost teeth. Saved my teeth on bicycle 4 times. The amount of times another car nearly (and nearly cos I anticipated) clipped me cos ppl can't drive I can't even remember...

The resulting grumps from belms can be vented by letting people out until you're in a better mood. Try it, it does work :)

Interest one this morning which resulting in me nearly killing myself. Got to the end of Lambeth Rd going onto the A302, there is a cycle traffic light which was green so continued at speed, about 10 meters after the first one is another set of cycle traffic lights which was red, only notice when I went speedy past in the traffic that had just started moving from the right. Who designs this shite. Much braking and holding my hand up to the driver who had to stop.

No but I do recall my sense of panic that I might not make it there before closing time.

I almost got taken out by a Dulwich Paragon caning it through the red from the right of that junction when I had a green. Same situation for him I guess, except the entrance to the bike box for him is almost at 90 deg to the road, so for him to clearly see the tiny green bike light but ignore the plethora of massive red lights ahead of him seemed a bit odd.

They're forcing cyclists to enter the 'bike box' through that little filter lane on the left, then stop at the red ahead of the traffic. Why not just not have a separate bike light and just let cyclists enter it and then stop at the red like a normal ASL?

They'll let anyone into the country these days. :)

Heard buzzyScooterCunt rapidly approaching while riding up Islington's Barnsbury Road on the way home. Refused to concede my safe distance from parked cars, assuming he could overtake in the 50m-ish gap between central island/bollard things. Instead he slowed down alongside me, tapping the speedometer and grinning while attempting to tell me my current speed, which I didn't quite get.

By the time my 'how fast?' had been confirmed as 25mph*, he was paying so little attention to more important matters that he nearly collided with the next rapidly approaching central reservation.

7/10. Next time I'll make sure they have to repeat it a second time for potentially spectacular consequences.

*wasn't really trying.
