  • @Burke I've got no complaints about current Record Pista, not sure why people don't rate them, but because of that you may be able to get a pair 2nd hand for cheap.

    The photos are, however, not of a Miche but of a Campagnolo Pista crank. From the lower photo I think the arm had a longer term crack development and gobs of tribocorrosion-- I see a lot of what on my monitor looks like black oxidation. I strongly suspect that crank was involved in a crash at one point as "ordinary" fatigue cracks and corrosion look-- again on my monitor-- a little bit different. My suspicions aside, alloy cranks can and do break from fatigue and tribocorrosion-- just like alu handlebars, stems and other parts. The position of the break is, I think, an indication of good design .The most "popular" place for cranks to break is the pedal eye and spider-- another potential problem came from engraved logos.
