*> Yeah, weren't you racing the National 12 on those Cambridge roads with me a few years ago?
Windy as buggery that day! It's a bit of a pain to get to but I don't mind the roads so I'll probably race it.*
Yes - my first 12 hour. Enjoyed that - until hot foot struck in the last hour. Michael Broadwith passed me at high speed about half way round. Then you passed me and I got stuck at 2 sets of red lights.

The National 100 is on Stockton Wheelers new 103 mile course (just to make sure...)
Thanks - I think I've just avoided all discussions on TT forum involving National 100 for the last 6 months!

fair enough, if your new crankset is imminent, surely its a short term solution to a short term problem and effectively just throwing money down the shitter....
that said if you find something cheap that works id probably buy it off you once you move on...
surely 56-58 is quite a wide range as well...?
-
• #12330
I don't want to spend £100+ to get something custom made that might be hard to move on (and certainly lose value), but I would consider sub £50 if I could get something generic that would not lose much value. Money down shitter solution vs. no money down shitter solution. But both are solutions.
How is 56-58 quite a wide range? It's precisely three chainring sizes - 56T, 57T and 58T

Tempted to ask TTF if that 65T is a wide-narrow chainring...

Easy.
I've got a 32T cassette at home. :)

6 watts better last night for a 20 second improvement on the HCC234 which is good, having gone from 27 seconds behind @specialist to being over 1.5 isn't so good.
was the first time I've ever steadily built power through an event (other than an initial splurge) rather than setting off like a bat out of hell and hoping I've magically gained the ability to hold 60watts more than I've ever averaged before!

• #12335
Sorry.
-
• #12336
I guess I need to put out more power and be more aero, while I'm dreaming I'll ask for some less weight as well!
presume you had an off week last week?
-
• #12337
I was pretty hypothermic before the start so sort of cruised round. Was a little unimpressed about being beaten though. ~40w lower last week than this week.

My 50:02 is now official. Woot! Another club record is mine, mine, mine.

nice! wont be long before you have them all!

I dunno, Meurig didn't get the 50 record in 2009 when he set most of the rest. It's still Pete Cookson's from '95. In theory I should be able to get it - I'm less than a minute off it at the moment but fitting in these short races when I'm doing 28hr training rides on alternate weekends is sub-optimal.
Not sure about his 10 record either - I would've still been maybe 30-40s off that on the H10/22 so to beat it, I'd probably have to go and race Hull, which takes up a whole weekend and messes my ultra training up for a <20min ride.

Ride to Hull, race, ride home. You could do a 19 on the F11, or maybe that other fast North London course (F20?)
-
• #12342
I think the 50 looks very doable for you based on the weekends time, you can add on 5 minutes to each lap and still beat it, things in reality are rarely as simple as they are in my head though!
in my mind Hull is fast enough to just turn up and crack a sub 20, again probably not the case and it probably takes a few goes to get decent weather and to familiarise yourself with the course.
could you plan riding back from hull (or part of it) to avoid the weekend being a total loss, or do a mid week one as I'm sure there are club events there in the summer?
-
• #12343
That would achieve a good long training ride, yes, but I don't fancy my chances at a fast time having arrived there. I don't fancy my chances of arriving there at all if i take the race bike :)

Next F11 is Jun 18th. I'm scheduled for a StupidLongRide™ that weekend and the E2/100 is that Sunday so I might shift the StupidLongRide™ so I can hit the 100mi. I might try an E2/10 since I've had some luck on E courses now.

Good enough for Dowsett...
-
• #12346
Yeah, I raced last year's 50s off the back of a holiday with 0 speedwork so I 'know' I can get it, it's more a question of finding a decent course on a decent day and not being fucked from other training. Prioritising training/events is a bit of a juggling act but I've focused on a single target before and if it goes to pot then I have nothing.
At least racing more I get some interim targets like club records to beat. So, say I lose the 24hr, my whole season isn't a write off if I've hit some other goals.
I could ride back from Hull or something but it would involve trains or getting the missus to drive back so it's a better package if I make it a 'holiday'. Also, has to be Open event to claim club records.

Dowsett could rest one of his legs on his handlebars while smoke a Churchill and still get around faster than me.

Actually 18th of May is midweek and it's an open. But then I'd lose a day of work so, nah mid-week not really a good option.
21 May - week after the BCM 600k - not exactly going to have much in the way of freshness by then.
4 Jun - SLR scheduled

28h training rides. That's more thna I do in a whole month. Shit.
Panic training. -

You don't need to train, you need to eat. Eat about 50kg more than me during the next few months.
