  • 'my first garmin' post...
About to bite the bullet and go for one, mostly for nav/mapping purposes on longer rides. Don't know the neighbouring countryside of East London well enough to navigate out and back in stress free. Looking at Edge 810 - anyone got any serious issues with it / strong reasons why another model would be better? £219 on Amazon seems reasonable.
    Thanks

  • If you want to follow a pre-plotted course, then the cheaper 520 is fine for that. Not had any issues following courses so far, and it's how I explore new areas.
Replace the base map on the 520 by following these instructions

If you want ad-hoc navigation then it's the 810/1000, although read Hippy's posts regarding Garmin's ad-hoc navigation.

  • Yes.

The 810 is the most cursed piece of shit ever to fall from the rectum of the Garmin cycling department. If you see one in the wild, smash the fuck out of it and put it and its owner out of their misery.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID!

  • What about the Edge Touring? more reliable than 810.
