I have been involved in things with the police on a couple of occasions when having a blade has come in handy. One was a swan wrapped up in fishing line, between us and with my Leatherman we were able to free it and let the thing go. Cop was well impressed, he had never seen one before, I have since seen lots of police carrying them.
More recently a cop came by my business with a flat tyre caused by a huge cut in the side. With a bit of plastic cut to size and a new tube he was on his way. I kept a note of his name and number, should I ever need to explain why I am carrying a knife.
Here is the blade, 25 years use, it is now about half its original size through wear and resharpening.
