Thing is, who actually needs any kind of mechanical tool watch these days? Anyone that needs a rugged watch buys a £100 G-Shock, and anyone that wants to dive uses a dive computer. Modern mechanical tool watches dont really have much function beyond aesthetic appeal.
You can get an automatic tool watch that doesn't cost thousands, though. Like the Seiko 5s. They're great. And personally I find an analogue dial easier to read at a glance than digital.
