Schwalbe one?
-
• #3053
Looking to ditch the Kenda tyres which came with my Plug. Apart from being a bit tractorish, there is not a lot of clearance to the mudgaurds so peddaling causes a bit of rubbing as the chromoplastics seem to flex quite a bit.
Anyhow:
Schwalbe Kojacks from bike 24 or Marathon Supreme (wired) from Spa? Both working out at £44 shipped.
Leaning towards the marathons for additional anti-p, but like the look of the baldies as well (match with rider).

I'm considering changing from Vittoria Pista CS to something else - these are for my outdoor racing/training wheels.
My favorite general tyre for outdoor tracks is the Continental Sonderklasse. Tempo are also not bad for training. FMB Super Piste Cotton is also a great tyre-- a bit like the old Sonderklasses. If you never ride in the train the Soie version is nice-- I just hate seeing my silk tyres rot. If you want to use road tyres there are a number of good choices. Instead of Vittoria why not a Veloflex Carbon? Or FMB Records (a modern take on the old Wolbers)?
The Pista CS's are okay, but a bit wooden and offer very little puncture protection. Also I've had a few bad tyres in the last year where the basetape has detached from the tub (straight out of the packet).
You can re-glue them with latex carpet glue. If you are using road mastics you could also use Terokal 2444. What is important is that the mastic used to attach the rim to base-tape is weaker than the bond between the base tape and tyre.

What inner tubes for a 38c 650b tyre? Pretty sure I saw someone say you can use 26inch tubes but wanted to check

Durano

Yes, quite like Durano - had those on my road bike. looking for something in 30-35mm for this bike, though. Current Kendas are 38.

No idea on speed, but I think road tubs are the way to go for Outdoor tracks for training/leagues. Too much crap gets on outdoor tracks to not use something with puncture protection.
I did (outdoor) track league on Corsa CXs and loved them. Veloflex road tubs will be fine too. -
• #3059
I did, exactly at 28mm, wrote it all up in the last two pages.

Yup, 26" inner tube, or Schwable SV12 to be specific.

• #3061
Recommend Kojak again in 35mm, light soft and feel fast.

Thanks, I was looking way back in the thread for some reason.
I have the tyres now, but wheels may be changing to a 27mm wide rim, so doubtful they will fit under a DA 9000 caliper! -

DA 9000 caliper
Pls report back if they do/dont.

Which depends upon the model. In Reflex, for example, I think Rose is still probably the cheapest (all models 32.95 EURO, basic shipping to GB ~9 EUROs).. I got mine from Rose..

I picked up a standard gp4000ii in 25mm for £26. I also got some swiss stop pads for £17 which took it over the free postage threshold.

For Reflex they want 36.95 EURO.

Should be €100 just so nobody buys them. Reflex tyres are so ugly.

Reflex tyres are so ugly.
All these black tyres with big logos are ugly. Its Zeitgeist. Reflex tyres are, however, useful on a touring bicycle.. In many countries there is a legal requirement to have reflectors on wheels (for example Germany).. its either spoke reflectors or reflective tyres... Which is more daft, spoke reflectors or ...

hey folks, anyone used the lighter Race version of thickslicks?
Not mad keen on the looks but have heard good things about durability, thinking that might only apply to the deluxe / elite versions though.
Normally use gatorskin hardshells but cheapness and potential skid durability are appealing to me at the moment...

I didn't know that. Do they actually enforce this?

review: after reading this thread I bought some schwalbe 1s for racing on which they feel good at, no worse than the GP 400s that I've used before. But seem to be much better for everything else, used them for the roubaix sportive on the weekend and got one puncture.

Was thinking perhaps of switching to a road tyre like a Corsa CX, or an SC, would they be faster at the same psi?
