  • ^^^thanks for suggestions folks. Will probably end up buying a new washing machine instead. :-(

  • Probably a question for @amey but where is the cheapest place for a 105 groupset atm online? The best place I've found is wiggle:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5800-groupset/

  • yep, thats the cheapest plus 3% Quidco.

  • Ribble had some Shimano discount codes recently but were also pretty cheap generally.

  • ok, maybe not

  • I want.

My frame is old (ish) and Di2 would mean a fully external install, which puts me off somewhat. The only thing that I'm unsure of is if eTap would work with my current 10 speed Rotor p2max chainset. Anyone able to shed any light?

  • Max you'd need is 11 sp chainrings if thats a thing .. i.e. I dunno if there is any diff in chainrings.

  • I've been having no end of trouble setting up my eTap with a Rotor chainset. I don't think it's ever going to work. I've had to put a 3 mm spacer on the BB to move the crank out far enough that it doesn't foul the front mech, but I'm still getting excessive chain rub. This is with a BSA 68 mm wide BB shell though, so I think that's probably the main issue.

  • I think the article stated somewhere that you need 11s cranks but I can't find it now

    edit:

What cranksets and cassettes is it compatible with? First off, only 11-speed right now (not 10-speed). So that might be a deal killer for some. Next, on the crankset standpoint, SRAM states that it’s compatible with “the same road drivetrain components as RED 22, Force 22, and Rival 22”. From there you’ve gotta work backwards and figure out if your crank is compatible with those components.

  • That's not good, as that's the same BB as I run. Are you planning on changing cranks?

Having to replace PM would make this a harder upgrade to justify.

  • Is Tiagra hydro disc available yet? And more importantly will the STIs work with Ultegra mechs?

  • Have you tried Q rings?

  • I'm planning on changing bikes.

  • Nope. Won't make any difference anyway, the crank arm fouls the rear of the front mech too.

  • How skinny are the cranks? Maybe I should've got these rather than the Hollowgrams..

  • Nope. Different cable pull.

  • Damn. 105 it'll have to be.

  • What about on a 5700 mech?

  • Nope, the 4700 now have similar cable pull to the 11 speed version, need to confirm this.

5700 is old 8/9/10 cable pull.

  • Isn't the 4700 pull is similar to 11 speed? Shouldn't it work With 6800 or 5800?

  • If should, I actually build up a bike that somehow got an 6800 derailleur instead of 6700 like the rest of the bike, and doesn't cause chain rubs on the 11 speed derailleur.

Obviously shifting doesn't work but will look into this more; it could mean that you can get 6800 derailleurs and chainset, 6700 cassette and 4700 shifter to reduced the weight of the overall components, not that weight matter of course.

All this is theory BTW, I will inspect my 5800 derailleur nexf time I'm at work.

  • Because 4700 felt a lots better than the old 5700, it mean you can get what felt like a high-end groupset that's not too heavy once you mix it up with 6800.
