• What would cycle training do when someone steps out in front of me when they shouldn't?

It's a standard response on here to any accident but it may teach you:-

    • to anticipate that such things can occur and to moderate your speed/positioning accordingly. Yes, this can mean not going as fast as you'd like, but it may help you avoid future incidents.
    • correct braking technique (body positioning especially) so you don't lock up and therefore stop in a shorter distance.
    • many other useful things you may not realise you needed to know.
  • Perhaps your tact will change slightly after reading this:

  • Remember that if everyone drove/rode/walked/etc as the Highway Code et al decrees then there'd be no incidents.

So the only incidents are going to be if you and/or another party diverges from that behaviour. If it's you (alone) then you've only got yourself to blame, if it's the other party then it's going to be up to you to avoid it. The moral high ground is useless when you're lying hurt on the road with a mangled bike (and possibly mangled person).

  • Amen to that. How to walk and look at an iPhone training would be great
