Taste of evil, while not pure horror has Orson wells playing a bloated corrupt murdering mexican border town Sheriff. A proper evil performance.

Invasion of the Body snatchers with Donald Sutherland. Such a nihilistic downer of a film with no redemption and the most chilling ending. The FX for 1978 are really graphic. The human pods grotesque and a jangling soundtrack to keep you on edge throughout
