Sorry if I'm being thick, but how will he skin his knuckles on the tyre?
It's my understanding of bicycles that the handlebars and the front wheel move together, and that this should keep his knuckles safe.

The issue is no one knows why this phenomena occurs. There is simply no reason why it should.
