  • Not enough demand and given the production costs they'd probably lose money on each one they sold. If they raised the price they'd sell fewer and still lose out. These frames aren't mass produced.

    My guess is that the companies lose a boat load of money producing special bikes for the teams, often for individual riders, but just consider this a marketing expense.

  • With carbon if you have the moulds you can keep it in 'production' albeit longer waiting periods etc no?

  • They probably aren't mass-prod molds. Custom layup in single-use vacuum packed bags or similar.
