  • That's why I kept away from twitter and tv's and shit until I got home. The missus didn't make it. Hahaha lightweight.

  • Is he passing him a baggie?!

  • What do you think that massive white line is in front of them?

  • Ah the great Aussie gloat, knew it was coming.

It has been pointed out several times in various internet comments that OGE have wom 3 monuments to Sky's 0, all with ex-Sky riders....

  • Couple of questions regarding PR equipment.

Why were some pros using Ultegra brakes instead of DA? (E.g. Cav)

How can manufacturers get away with special geo roubaix bikes that they dont sell to the public with the UCI rule? (Cannondale and Specialized mainly).

  • Wider tyre clearance. 28mm on Ultegra vs. 25mm on DA.

What special geo bikes? Roubaix bikes are off the peg. That 'available to public' rule has been breached in almost every event under UCI. It's clearly not policed. So long as the bikes fit in the jig before the race, they're allowed.

  • Why were some pros using Ultegra brakes instead of DA?

    More tyre clearance?

  • That 'available to public' rule has been breached in almost every event under UCI.

Thats the rule I was talking about. The synapse and roubaix that pros are riding arent available to public. The geo of Spesh Roubaix ridden by Boonen is different to MAMIL chariot geo that you get off the peg. Pro geo Domane is available to buy but only in certain sizes. Not sure about BMC and others.

  • How do you know they're not available? If you inquire with the companies I'm sure they would be 'available' just like those £6000 helmets the British team used for the Olympics were available to the public.

Find out how much a set of Wiggo's Hour custom-printed Ti aerobars are to the general pleblic..

  • Sorry but you might've taken me for an amateur buyer (?)

Same case with Roubaix that Etixx ride. The geos are one off.

Example of trek's pro only Domane being sold to public:

No Surrey MAMIL can bend that much with exception of DJ.

I can understand if its super special case like Wiggins' hour record.

  • You're failing to see the point. The companies can make whatever the hell they want and then if anyone queries it they will 'make them available to the public' for some silly price and rules (kind of) remain adhered to.

They've always had custom bikes for the classics - bigger clearances, different suspension tricks and non-replaceable derailler hangers and stuff like that.

  • I have made queries with bottomless credit cards. You cannot buy them. Small tweaks and literally one off (Wiggo's hour record) are fine but when you can supply whole teams why not sell them? Puzzles me ..

  • 2007 custom bike for Boonen from Specialized:
    http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/tech/2009/probikes/?id=tom_boonen_specialized_roubaix_sl2_09

    It's not a new thing.

  • Yeah totally, but why? why not sell to plebs?

  • Because nobody but you thinks of buying them?

  • You're card is not bottomless enough and you're likely not speaking to the right people. I'm sure they are available to buy - appearing in a catalogue or whatever documentation they might think is required for the UCI. More likely they just don't give a shit and will only do something if/when the UCI ever took them to task over it.

Wiggo's bars are even more UCI-illegal because they breach a separate rule that says bikes/parts designed specifically to attain a record are not permitted. That's forgetting the fact his bike isn't available to the public according to their other rule.

They might not supply them to the whole team - Boonen and Sagan were likely special cases. Either way, unless you're a lawyer or someone from another team claiming unfair advantage the companies, teams, UCI are not going to give a shit about how gold/platinum your credit card is...

  • Fair.

I wasnt happy when Trek decided to stick to classics man sizes with Domane koppenberg either ..

  • I forgot this

  • Got it. That was the explanation I was looking for. I'd love a long and low Spesh Roubaix. How much do lawyers charge?

  • Not enough demand and given the production costs they'd probably lose money on each one they sold. If they raised the price they'd sell fewer and still lose out. These frames aren't mass produced.

My guess is that the companies lose a boat load of money producing special bikes for the teams, often for individual riders, but just consider this a marketing expense.

  • he won on an aero bike with BB mounted brake LOLOL
