  • If anyone thinks this is a Tory/Cameron problem, then they have missed the point on a rather grand scale (although to be fair that does seem to be this thread's raison d'être).

Claiming the Tories/Cameron are a problem is very different from claiming they are the problem. I'm not sure many people have said the latter, but everyone seems to agree on the former (even the comments section of the FT!).

Everyone knows other people do these things as well, but other people do not hold a majority in parliament.

In any case, you seem to be making a claim to knowledge above and beyond everyone else in this thread (who have "missed the point on a rather grand scale"), so please do enlighten.

  • point of order, sir

please clarify: "everyone else in this thread (who have missed the point on a rather grand scale)"

every poster (except the enlightened philosophers) on this thread has missed the point, or only those who have missed the point..

    reads ambiguously

  • Thank you for bringing the ambiguity to my attention.

My aim was to draw attention to the honourable @Ratty's position that this thread's "raison d'etre" (I find the use of French here troubling) is to "[miss] the point on a rather grand scale." This, to me, is a rather bold - and dare I saw - provocative claim.

I probably should have used quotes.
