What time is it? Watches and horology

With the launch of the new Explorer (with lume in numerals and slightly longer minute hand) the 'step change' Explorer with solid white gold numerals and shorter minute hand is set to become a future classic.

Why? Partly because of its quirks but also with the launch of the update the very first (and original 39mm case) 214270 wasn't around for long in comparison to other variants. Just 5 years, which for the classic Explorer line is nothing.

^^ Nope, the lume issue is mentioned in every review. Not a huge issue for me. The other thing I might see about is getting AR coating on inside only. I'm an impatient man, and The supplier has one waiting.

New one or all? I looked into one once - the polar. But it was borderline bling. I like it when Rolex have to try hard and not follow a formula.

My Brother has just informed me that he is getting married in Guadaloupe so I have to haul my family out there this summer (very not planned). This means that I've got to pull out of buying the Black Bay Black that Ejay has in stock. I would recommend jumping on it as this watch is pretty sure to appreciate.

Get on your bike and ride down to those places on/just off Clerkenwell Road/St John Street... Not sure what, if anything, they'd have in stock at Alsal...

Looking at prices for second hand explorer 1's on eBay they are generally within £500 of a brand new one, if not within £200 in some cases. Why would you go second hand with all that entails for such a minor saving (in % terms)?
