What would be my best approach for crimping chain stays in situ?
Vise or hammer?
I need a bit of space both for tyre and cranks. -
• #75531
Just got a chain ring, some of the teeth are slightly shorter than others, I know it's supposed to be like this but just wondered why?
-
• #75532
smoother gear shifting
-
• #75534
I figured but it doesn't seem to follow a regular pattern large tooth to small so wasn't sure

You have to look at it in conjunction with the ramps and pins and the clocking relative to the crank, and from the point of view of the chain as it gets lifted off the little ring and caught by the big one.

You can switch gear anywhere through the crank rotation though no? So with this in mind, how do you tell which way to install a ring relative to the spider? Assuming that the area with the smaller teeth is supposed to be in a set position relative to the arms
-
• #75537
Isn't there a pin?
This needs to be adjacent to the crank to catch dropped chains.

There is usually some kind of marking to indicate correct clocking.

You can try, but the positioning of the lifting pins will actually make it happen at specific points.

Ah okay perfect. Thanks guys @mdcc_tester @Scilly.Suffolk
Always happy to learn something new -

Great. Thanks. Just what I needed.

1"x 24tpi BSC. The thread form is cycle-specific, don't try to wing it with a 1" x 24 UNF...
This is advertised as being for bike forks: would you expect BSC to be specified on the die, ie assume UNF if it doesn't say otherwise?

It would be nice, but the manufacturer's mark matches these BB taps so they obviously made cycle tools.
Also, I was wrong earlier, UNC/UNF/UNEF threads are 60° flank angle, but 1" UNEF are 20TPI anyway so anything 1"×24TPI is almost certainly BSC

Thanks.

I've got a couple of 1" threaded forks that need thread extending but don't want to pay lbs £20 a fork to do so.
If you're not sorted, I saw this on eBay.
(Also see above.)

I want to register a domain name.
It is currently registered (expires today), being used by some photographer.
What's the best way to go about acquiring the domain?
Gamble and wait for it to lapse after it's grace period etc?
Use one of those domain name preordering services?

Why aren't they using a helicopter to follow the Paris-Roubaix this year?
-
• #75549
Ha! As soon as I posted that, they went to the helicopter.

Anyone here an Edinburgh local, or local enough to recommend a decent pub central/near the Playhouse?
Pubs I know are all on the South side of town. And because this is so central, don't want to end up at a Weatherspoons (Brexit fucks).
Task rabbit?
