I have a spare frame that I probably ought to sell, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it, as it's a lovely ride (BMC SL01). It probably deserves a fancypants groupset but I'm wondering whether the modest outlay of £225 on a 4700 groupset would be a reasonable move. Does anyone here have experience of this groupset?

Just get 5800.
105 is a good groupset.
Only £75 more.

Seconded. Just get 105

Hmm, but 5800 is 11 speed and the wheels I have are 10 speed compatible RS80s. Maybe I could "borrow" the Ksyriums off another bike to make it work. Is 5800 that much better/lighter than 4700?

If you are going 10 speed you can probably pick up a 6700 or even 7900 for cheaps on the uk time trail forum

4700 felt exactly like 5800, just 10 speed.
It's better than the old 5700.
-
• #5062
Still not convinced thats better then 7700.

Can you change the freehub on them to make it 11spd compat?
Someone on here was machining them...

If its 10 speed put 4700 on it. When I see the price diff between 5800 and 4700 its laugh-able BUT given your 10 speed limitation 4700 should be plenty.
4700's pricing is OEM targeted.

6800 is better than 7900 IMO.

I said 5700, not 7700.
5700 felt like shit nowadays, and the easier cable installation of the 4700 and above made light work for us.

My 7900 brakes and deraillers have been through hell and are still rockin'.
I only use half of each groupset but I've always found DA is better.

Shifting feels lighter on 11 spd ultegra.

Lucky I have the hands of a 80s Russian weightlifter then.

Only because the Hairy Palms King of Wankers thread was banned...
I just can't get past the giant inline adjusters on the gear hoses.
