I don't know, heritage or heirloom seems like a decent name for an old variety of plant to compare it to modern hybrids. What else would you call them?
It just strikes me that these terms are used in a casual, meaningless way to get Hipsters to spend a fortune on a bit of veg.
You can do the same thing with fish, just by prefacing it with the dreaded 'Cornish Day Boat'.

I tried to find a definition for this. All I could dredge up was a BBC Politics article from 2003 (or something) saying it was largely undefined and mostly used to stop journalists prying further.
