I thought you ran a (illegal in Germany) dynamo, or do you mean you brought an extra packed lunch in today?

Apparently the thing in the wheel is an alternator not a dynamo because it's AC whereas a Magneto dynamo would be DC.

And before anyone mentions it, I too can see where he is massively and embarrassingly wrong. Magneto is a Marvel character not DC.

That is a splendid bit of pedantry but is it true? I would have assumed it would be a DC output so you could run a standard LED lamp.

The lights have a circuit to convert AC into DC and the capacitor wot powers the stand light helps smooth the power to reduce flicker.

You could, of course, use 4 LED and arrange them to form a bridge rectifier, although I think flicker would still be an issue. Just seems strange that a simple commutator in the hub would remove the need for a rectifying circuit, especially as the capacitor would require DC as well.

Back in time, none of this DC shit mattered as we used bulbs.

When LED came along it had to be retrofitted to the existing tech, which was AC.

and the rear one's casing was in "shocking pink". With the D-batteries I think they weighed as much as my bike, and if you hit a pothole they would generally fly out of their brackets.
