  • I can't find it with the site's search, but is the #testerapproved single-speed commuto crankset some kind of Shimano jobbie?

  • Alfine

  • FC-S500 if there are any left, FC-S501 is the current model. I have no idea why Shimano felt moved to update the styling, I think the old smooth 500 looks better than the new 501 with edges, but at least they didn't do the godawful colour contrast like they did when DuraAce got edge-design going from 7800 to 7900

  • Cheers - seems it's hens teeth for such an everyday item

  • NM - refresh fail

  • SC501 has a 42.7mm chainline, Pompino says it needs 42. Dead soon? I had not idea what chainline was until I'd been riding for ages.

  • tester approved lockring tool for two notch dura ace?

my bbb lockring tool kept slipping on a reluctant lockring. decided to shave it down a bit but now it slips even quicker. ffs.

    anyway, this:

    http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Lockring-Pliers/
looks like a great hack. any thoughts?

  • @fizzy.bleach
You wont notice less than a millimetre difference in chainline. Nor does a frame determine what chainline you should be running. What hub/sprocket are you running?

  • tester approved lockring tool for two notch dura ace?

    Shimano DuraAce, obvs.

But the real #tester_approved solution is a better lock ring

  • SC501 has a 42.7mm chainline, Pompino says it needs 42. Dead soon?

Not from that cause. Even if your hub/sprocket combo is bang on 42.0mm, I'd be a bit surprised if a Pompino was tracked to better than ±0.5mm.

  • Sincere thanks. Rose proved cheapest, but doesn't sell sets of narrow chainring bolts (or any chainring bolts for that matter) in packs of 5, only 4.

Will have to roll with that chainguard like a boss.

  • Will have to roll with that chainguard like a boss

The chainguard is one of the best things about the Alfine chainset, it has that 70s CX aesthetic :-)

  • Pompino says it needs 42.

    Tell it to STFU.

Within reason chainline is determined by crank/BB and hub, not the frame.

    EDIT
    NVM F5 fail

  • ha! ok. i'll cheapskate again due to my dutch nationality and try that hack that i posted before despite being told better advice. if that fails, itll be splashing out on the da or hozan tool. cheers

  • i'll cheapskate again due to my dutch nationality and try that hack

Hacking some water pump pliers might actually be better than getting the Hozan C-203, thanks to the way the applied torque translates into increased holding grip better with the bell crank shape of common pliers rather than the inline arrangement of the Hozan.

  • Exactly what I was thinking

  • I've got a frame with a 1" threaded headset, is there an approved quill stem?

  • I don't think Tester approves of quill stems full stop, so I'm looking forward to his bone-dry reply here :).

  • My money's on a deathly hush.

I enjoy a haughty riposte as much as the next man, but you can't always get what you want...

  • Ah. Good to know, thanks.

  • I don't think Tester approves of quill stems

    My work here is done

  • What's the @mdcc_tester approved torque for tightening the bolts on the aero axle conversion?

  • 5Nm is sufficient

  • cheap torque wrench for bikez?
