Yeah, this 1x1 is something I threw together. Had some specific boxes I wanted ticked and actually never even gave Surlys a thought. When I got wind that the frame could easily handle 650b I started looking for one.
It's currently rolling on WTB i29 rims and 2.8" Nobby Nics that measure 69/68mm knob-knob/casing-casing. Axle is dead center in the dropouts and there just enough wiggle room to keep my mind off it. Slammed in the rear I bet a full 3.0" would work. Bb height was a concern but as soon as I got out riding I forgot about that. Feels planted, fast and sure. A real shredder.
An Inbred would also be cool but I already did that thing with the segmented front&rear forks on my Pompetamine.
Stem is a GT stem, 90's era. I got a few. Can't have too many stems.
Other bits I like are the great XT clutch rear der and MT62 cranks filed down for low q-factor so it doesn't feel like treading a plowed field.
