  • No first place in audax.

  • Of course there is.

    Sportives: Pretending you're racing.
    Audax: Pretending you're not.

  • Thanks, we'll see how it goes. I've gotten the long distances bug last year but for some reasons DNFed the two audaxes which I entered. Hopefully I've learned some things since then!

  • Anyone riding Yr Elenydd next weekend?

Realised i've got the weekend free, train down isn't too expensive either. Got today to decide if it's worth doing or I stay local and take the mountain bike out overnight instead...

  • Sounds like a very good plan.

  • You're being silly. There is a first finisher and a second and a third and a fourth, and so on...

  • Yr Elenydd

Definitely worth doing (although I last did it when it was still The Elenith starting from Wolverley, the newer start still retains the middle 200km which is the important bit.)

    Utterly stunning ride.

  • @SeƱor_Bear of course there is but try telling that to all the old pootlers.

  • They're just bitter that they can't ride fast any more (or never could).

  • Oi! I resemble that remark

  • I'm not. I'm telling you as you were the one saying that there isn't a first finisher.

Oh wait, I get it, were you being argumentative?

  • Good to know, think I'll give it a go.

  • Free camping at the start too! Best try and borrow a tent now :/

  • Lies.

First back gets the biggest bit of cake. That's incentive enough to 'win'. :)

    Hope they recover. Sounds nasty.

  • Fingers crossed for them, hope they have a full recovery.

  • Yes. Heal up cyclist.

  • Thought I was going to be home first at 3down but there were two sneaky early starters in front of me.

Still raced the last 60km home to hold a few off.

  • The Shark this week, I am really looking forward to a start/arrivee 2 minutes from home. Will be nice not to be out for hours too, as the last two weeks I have done 3 Down and the Easter Arrow. My Wife is away for the weekend so after riding ALL the hills, I intend to drink ALL the beers.

  • From what I hear, a very nasty collision.

Hoping for an update on the rider soon and in the meantime, they are very much in my thoughts along with their friends and family and I hope that things start to look more positive as we get more news.

  • Any stories from the weekend (The Shark or Elenydd riders)?

  • I gather from YACF the rider passed away. Sad times.

    RIP

  • Audax question that I should probably ask on yacf, but thought I'd try here first.

I want to ECE a 300k (Oasts and Coasts) up to 400k . The start (Meopham) is approx 50k away from home (Brixton), so finding routes is pretty straightforward. I understand I can do this by GPS by paying 3 quid and filling in the relevant form. However I don't understand if I can do this by coming up with a mandatory route, or whether I need to mess around with getting receipts and choosing control points. Because ideally I don't want to be wasting time trying to get receipts at 2am in South London.

  • Yes. The Shark was very difficult for me. At the moment my only bike is my CC which is very weighty. I was literally dragging the bike up hills all day. Bar end shifters made climbing out of the saddle laborious. At least I had mudguards though, because it rained quite relentlessly for at least the first couple of hours. There were 8 of us at the beginning. 2 dropped at Tunbridge Wells (hypothermia set in cause they were underdressed). 2 more dropped at the seaside as they never intended to do the full thing and then 4 of us made it back. Toy's is never welcome, but especially not towards the end of 200k; the roll back into Greenwich was fun and fast.

Wonderful route though despite the relentless up and down and fantastic organisation from Audax Club Hackney. Best feed stop I've had in ages. First RRtY we've finished in the day light too (clocks changing, not because we were fast!) Managed to ride 120k yesterday too so feeling pretty decent.
