  • I have so far avoided it, only by fractions at times!

In fairness of you miss the turn on h10/22 the 404 before becomes a motorway before you get to the next junction, so in sure it's happened before!

  • I can see a bit of validity in going up the DC to see what conditions are actually like but pootling up a DC does not sound safe to me

It's fine, and your alternative route climbs exactly the same amount, it just does it in a less uniform way so the steepest pitch is steeper. We use that road as the middle part of our 3-stage hill climb.

  • I cycled half way to Canterbury on the M2 on the way to cycle tour Europe...

I think it was on the H25/2 that I shot down the motorway on-ramp and rode a 1:00:04 in the early days of chasing the hour.

  • Which I've also ridden and probably failed to recognise...

  • How does everyone deal with riding up hills on the way to the start? I want to go the D10/15 this year but the 1 in 8 rise on the way to the start sounds bad on 60-15/16.

  • Slowly.

  • Slowly

Sounds about right. Give yourself plenty of time and keep the effort under control. H25/2 has the advantage that you can loosen up on the A4010 at the top once you're up there.

  • Not done any motorway riding in the UK but I did a short stretch in Albania. It was quite pleasant.

I did a bit of the A303 when I had had enough of the lanes while doing the KSW. It was the bit where it alternates between 2 lanes westbound / 1 eastbound and vice versa. When it went to two lanes, the traffic speed went up massively. It was a busy Sunday and I've never had such a tow from traffic. I did 25mph easily, which I don't normally manage on the flat, 450km into a hilly 600.

  • You turn RIGHT out of the H.Q. Over the mini-roundabout, 1st exit at the next, up the ski-slope and round the big roundabout at the top, be careful to take the correct exit onto the A404 or you'll be on the motorway.

  • You wanna try going down it on 53x15, rode it last year on fixed (did 54:08) geared TT bike smashed up (on F11/10 in June) got to about 42 m.p.h. And had to come off the tri-bars as it was getting hairy to say the least!

  • Yeah, but @Sainsburys_Ed route is possibly a quieter alternative.

  • Yep rode up it yesterday, it's quite a long slog but as a large proportion is 30/40mph speed limit is fairly pleasant!

  • Don't suppose anyone's got a track adaptor for a Zipp 900 knocking about have they? It's the 11-speed 188 hub version. A mate of mine's looking for one and I figured this would be the place to ask!

  • H10/22 on the 24th anyone?

  • H10/22 is dead to me.

  • H10/22 is dead to me

Bossard have moved their May 7th event to the F11 due to roadworks on the F15. Faster than the H10/22, but you'll want to get your chain retention sorted to deal with the bumps in the first couple of miles :-)

  • Chasing 10 times >>>>>

    H50/8 on the 8th of May <<<<<

  • Don't have broken front derailler hanging around I can cut up do you?

I've actually bought bigger DA9000 rings so will likely be running a standard double Di2 setup again - no point being more aero if it means you're sat by the side of the road..

  • Chasing 10 times <<<<<
    H50/8 on the 8th of May <<<<<

Because why race once when you can race twice?

  • Riding a 10 on the Saturday before a Sunday 50 is doable, see G.Obree 1993, 18:27 for comp record on the Saturday afternoon, 1:39:01 for comp record and national championship on the Sunday morning. You'll have more recovery time, as the Bossard event has been moved to a morning start.

  • Racing the 10 isn't really ideal prep for a 50. And a proper training session on the Saturday would be much better than a 10 if I was doing that.

  • You forget that I don't really give a shit about either of them (find me a faster 50 course). The last time I raced that 50 course I'd ridden a 100 mile the day before... http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/torrential-rain-affects-north-norfolk-wheelers-100-mile-time-trial-30522

I'm never going to win a 50 but I should be able to improve my course best.

So you're saying Obree could easily have done a 1:38 if he hadn't cocked up his preparation? He must be kicking himself now that you're here to tell him how to do time trials :-)

  • Don't have broken front derailler hanging around I can cut up do you?

You can get a shiny new FD-3500 for under £15

  • I'm not Obree though, am I?
