  • Gearing up for another stab at fixed.
Briefly tried it years ago, time for round 2.
18t SS and 18t fixed in place so need to cut down the chain from running a 18-22 set up.
Worth noting, the Sturmy Archer 22t freewheel has a different spacing removal tool spacing to the tool that works with Shimano and Dicta freewheels, only one of four spurs will fully engage when trying to undo one.
If you get Sturmy Archer freewheels, worth getting the SA tool as well, or get creative with a lump hammer.
Might transfer all bits to a larger 501 frame i have, give it a whirl, but sure i could get away with a 56 frame, using a 58 and have a 62 kicking about.
I fancy something newer for summer just need to work out what and what size. :)

  • It gonna have to happen, either get "gravel" bike with heap of clearance ot a road disc that allow more clearance with 650b.

  • Surely thats the role of the elephant?

  • Drive side has a bit of bearing wear.

  • I do not know what you want to insinuate as usual, but no, what I'm looking at the moment is that PMP cranks...

Allez nous on retourne faire de la balançoire a+

  • Someone was having trouble with a trek alu frame quite a few pages back, the downtube bolt-through cable stops were gone. Can't find it now. I've salvaged this off the crashed hinault and it looks like the solution. PM me if you see this and still need it.

  • That's a touring bike, the Saracen replace the Genesis Volare, geometry is quite similar but taller headtube, carbon and disc.

  • heel fijn Menheer, would have liked to have seen some before images in the folder though

  • cheers mr @saarf, will ask mr @SimplexNL for some pics to appreciate the difference

  • A quick rear light bracket hack for my Blackburn rack. (Quite poetic that, I think.) Parts include a piece of metal that came with the rack, a rubber shim, and the washer for an SPD-SL cleat, cos it was the closest thing I had to hand.

  • Got a budget VP BB this morning and transfered parts from the gold Raleigh to the blue Raleigh.
Bit big for me but rideable, no toe overlap and fast steering :)

Going off road on 28c road tyres was exciting in the mud.

  • Painful looking standover.

  • Yep, legs could be longer, i am only a short arse 6'1"er, will probs be for sale in the summer, just using it to work out some size things.
Pleasant ride though, may have to master track stands so as not to fall over at traffic lights if straps are too tight :)

  • Nice pic. Is that a steamroller?

  • Nice. You're gonna need something to stop those nuts rattling loose though.

  • YES, fire it up, mate !

  • Thanks, it is a steamroller

  • Been fiddling with my bikes recently. Wanted something a bit like my Pompino but with gears - was gonna save up for a cross check then I saw this old Koga Miyata Road Gentleman frame off the forum and moved various parts around, and bought a few new ones to end up with this tourer/long ride thingy. Feels supremely comfy on 32c Ribmos but also perfectly swift.

Then put some Cowbells on the Pompino - still love this bike, mostly use it for commuting and round town but awesome on proper jaunts too.

And then turned my old Koga Miyata Gentsracer into a single speed beater. Looks better in real life, rides beautifully.

All a bit mediocre in spec and looks but ride smoothly and function excellently. Just need something to encourage me to take up off road. Eyeing up the new Pine Mountain...

  • Finished building this up today, does need a few little tweeks still but I'm happy with it.

  • New rear wheel and I just had to find a way to put mudguards...
This bike is a pure pleasure

  • Is that a tt saddle? Also loving the bars, do you have another angle?

  • just when you thought gaston couldn't get any more gaston. WTF is that bottle cage?

  • Two new projects finished.
